TERAHERTZ WAVEGUIDE SWITCHES

Low-loss terahertz switches with nanometer resolution positioning and feedback are disclosed. In one embodiment, the switch uses a U-bend waveguide surrounded by an electromagnetic band gap and is implemented in a fully metal-machined fashion in combination with a piezo-electric motor and an optical linear encoder. In another embodiment, the switch comprises a MEMS device.

WAVEGUIDE FOR TRANSMITTING MICROWAVE SIGNALS

A waveguide in the form of a wave duct for transmitting microwave signals includes at least one non-conducting body arranged in and/or on the wave duct, and by at least one MHD pump, by which an electrically conductive liquid medium can be admitted to fill the at least one body and/or to exert a force on at least one wall of the wave duct.

A movable waveguide block 50 having transmission lines 51 and 52 slides in a non-contact manner between a first end surface 30b of a first fixing waveguide block 30 having transmission lines 31 and 32 and a second end surface 40a of a second fixing waveguide block 40 having a transmission line 41, and switching of propagation paths is performed. Grooves 35A, 35B, 36A, 36B, 45A, 45B, 55A, 55B, 56A, 56B, 57A, 57B, 58A, and 58B having depths equivalent to ¼ of a guide wavelength of an electromagnetic wave of a leakage prevention object are provided in pairs around openings of the transmission lines 31, 32, 41, 51, and 52 facing each other across a gap between blocks. Accordingly, unintended leakage of electromagnetic waves to the transmission lines via the gap between the blocks is prevented, and isolation increases.

The present disclosure refers to a waveguide electromechanical relay switch having a rotor with transmission paths and an axis of rotation parallel to the base plane combined with an actuator adapted to the configuration. A 4-pol switch design enables compensation of fault cases in a relatively shortened length of transmission line, reducing potential RF loss. In one embodiment, a 4-pol rotor includes an offset transmission path that enables crossing of another path on the same rotor, providing increased functionality and fault-case recovery.

Switch network housing

A housing for a switch network is provided, comprising a plurality of switch blocks, each of the switch blocks being adapted to receive a radio frequency switch, and one or more interlink waveguides. At least one of the waveguides is arranged to connect a respective two or more of the switch blocks to each other and arranged externally with respect to the two switch blocks. At least one of the one or more waveguides is integrally formed with at least one of the switch blocks. A method of manufacturing the housing is also provided.

Contactless waveguide switch and method for manufacturing a waveguide switch

A waveguide switch for switching between an ON-state and an OFF-state for a waveguide channel, including: a moveable waveguide switch body including: an input opening for receiving an electromagnetic wave, an output opening for releasing an electromagnetic wave, wherein the waveguide switch body further includes a blocking element arranged such that in the ON state, an electromagnetic wave may pass from the input opening to the output opening, and in the OFF state the blocking element substantially impedes an electromagnetic wave traveling from the input opening to the output opening, whereby the switch from the ON state to the OFF state is a rotational or translation movement of the waveguide switch body. Also, a waveguide system employing such a switch and a method of manufacturing such a switch. Contactless switching is provided in a high-frequency system.

Embodiments of the invention include waveguide switch rotors, stators, waveguide switch housings and meander clamping mechanisms. Embodiments of a meander clamping mechanism may be used to connect arbitrary objects to one another. A meander clamping mechanism is particularly useful for connecting a rotor to a motor shaft and also for securing a bearing between a stator and rotor.

Tunable microwave system

A tunable microwave system includes at least two elements, each element being chosen from a propagating guide, an evanescent guide, a resonator, and at least one coupling device arranged between the two elements and configured to couple the two elements to each other, the coupling device having a holder having an aperture and having at least one elongate element the shape of which is elongate in a polarization direction contained in a plane of the aperture, the elongate element being securely fastened to the perimeter of the aperture at at least one end, the coupling device being configured to be rotatable about an axis substantially perpendicular to the plane of the aperture so as to modify a value of the polarization direction and so that the coupling between the two elements is dependent on the value of the polarization direction.
