Multi-band, dual-polarization reflector antenna
An antenna includes a reflector and a waveguide assembly. The waveguide assembly includes a feed assembly and a support member that extends from behind the reflector to orient the feed assembly for direct illumination of the reflector. The waveguide assembly includes a first waveguide coupled to a first portion of a common waveguide, a second waveguide coupled to a second portion of the common waveguide, and a septum layer that includes a septum polarizer coupled between the common waveguide and the first and second waveguides.
PRISM FOR REPOINTING REFLECTOR ANTENNA MAIN BEAM
A microwave prism is used to repoint an operational Direct-to-Home (DTH) or Very Small Aperture Terminal (VSAT) reflector antenna as part of a ground terminal to receive (or transmit) signals from a different satellite or orbital position without physically moving the reflector or the feed horn antenna. The microwave prism operates by shifting the radiated fields from the horn antenna generally perpendicular to the focal axis of the parabolic reflector in order to cause the main beam of the reflector to scan in response. For an existing reflector antenna receiving signals from an incumbent satellite, a prism has been designed to be snapped into place over the feed horn and shift the fields laterally by a calibrated distance. The structure of the prism is designed to be positioned and oriented correctly without the use of skilled labor. This system allows a satellite service provider to repoint their subscribers to a new satellite by shipping a self-install kit of the prism that is pre-configured to have the correct orientation and position on the feed antenna to correctly re-point the beam at a different satellite once the prism is applied. One benefit of the system is that unskilled labor, i.e., the subscribers themselves, can be used to repoint a large number of subscriber antennas in a satellite network rather than requiring the cost of a truck roll and a technician to visit every site. The microwave prisms to implement this functionality can be constructed in different ways, with homogeneous slabs or blocks, Gradient-Index (GRIN), multi-layered dielectric, geometric or graded-index Fresnel-zone, metasurface, or metamaterial prisms. The geometric and electrical constraints of the design are determined by the incumbent and target satellites, and the ground terminal location.

High-performance dual-polarized antenna feed chain
Antenna feed chains and methods are disclosed. An antenna feed chain, include a feed horn having a first cross-polarization performance over a solid angle of interest and a frequency band of interest and a polarizer having a second cross-polarization performance over the solid angle of interest and the frequency band of interest. The polarizer is coupled to the feed horn. The first cross-polarization performance of the feed horn compensates for the second cross-polarization performance of the polarizer over the solid angle of interest and the frequency band of interest.

Magnetic absorbers for passive intermodulation mitigation
A wireless communication system including an electrically conductive passive medium capable of simultaneously propagating therealong electromagnetic first and second currents at different respective frequencies F1 and F2, the electrically conductive passive medium including an electrically conductive first passive linear medium portion adjacent an electrically conductive first passive nonlinear medium portion, the first passive nonlinear medium portion capable of generating an intermodulation current based on a nonlinear interaction between the first and second currents, the intermodulation current having a frequency Fi equal to nF1+mF2 and propagating along the first passive nonlinear medium portion, m and n being positive or negative integers; and a first magnetic film disposed proximate an electrically conductive external surface of the first linear medium portion, such that when the first and second currents propagate along the first passive linear medium portion toward the first passive nonlinear medium portion, the magnetic film reduces or prevents the generation of the intermodulation current in the first passive nonlinear medium portion by attenuating at least portions of the first and second currents.
Dielectric resonator antenna system
An electromagnetic device includes: an electrically conductive ground structure; at least one dielectric resonator antenna (DRA) disposed on the ground structure; at least one electromagnetic (EM) beam shaper disposed proximate a corresponding one of the DRA; and, at least one signal feed disposed electromagnetically coupled to a corresponding one of the DRA. The at least one EM beam shaper having: an electrically conductive horn; a body of dielectric material having a dielectric constant that varies across the body of dielectric material in a specific direction; or, both the electrically conductive horn and the body of dielectric material.
Method and apparatus for transitioning between electromagnetic wave modes
Aspects of the subject disclosure may include, a system that facilitates detecting first electromagnetic waves propagating along a transmission medium are experiencing a first propagation loss, inducing second electromagnetic waves along the transmission medium to mitigate the first propagation loss, detecting that the second electromagnetic waves are experiencing a second propagation loss and inducing third electromagnetic waves along the transmission medium to mitigate the second propagation loss. To reduce radiation losses when transitioning from the first electromagnetic waves to second electromagnetic waves and transitioning from the second electromagnetic waves to the third electromagnetic waves, the system can be further adapted to use differing criteria for each transition. Other embodiments are disclosed.
Ultra-wideband non-metal horn antenna
The disclosure provides an ultra-wideband non-metal horn antenna, which includes three combinable non-metal elements such as an impedance matching member, a field adjustment member and an outer cover member. The impedance matching member and the field adjustment member are respectively disposed with a first and second groove structures. The field adjustment member is connected between the impedance matching member and the outer cover member. Therefore, the horn antenna of the disclosure can have a more symmetrical radiation pattern, a smaller antenna size, and ultra-wideband performance.
