ELECTRICAL WIRING DEVICES WITH SCREWLESS WIRE TERMINALS
20230299510 · 2023-09-21 ·

Electrical wiring devices that incorporate screwless wire terminal connections are described. The electrical wiring devices include for example, single and duplex blade-type electrical receptacles, blade-type locking electrical receptacles, single or multi-pole electrical switches, combination switches and blade-type receptacles, blade-type plugs for electrical cords, blade-type connectors for electrical cords, male and female inlet connectors, pin-in-sleeve connectors and motor control switches. The electrical wiring devices include a plurality of contact assemblies that have a wire terminal and an activating member can be removably attached to a housing of the electrical wiring device and selectively interacts with the wire terminal.

Conductive Terminal and Electrical Connection Assembly

A conductive terminal includes a fixing portion mechanically fixing and electrically connecting to a circuit board, a floating portion elastically connected to the fixing portion and capable of moving relative to the fixing portion, and an elastic clip connected to the floating portion and having a clamping portion clamping and electrically contacting a mating terminal inserted into the clamping portion. The floating portion is movable under a drive of the mating terminal when the mating terminal is inserted offset into the clamping portion to adjust the clamping portion to a position aligned with the mating terminal.

Push wire connectors

Configurations for push wire connectors and for electrical wiring devices that mate with or connect to the push wire connectors are disclosed. The push wire connectors have a housing and one or more contact assembly positioned within the housing. Each contact assembly has one or more contact openings to allow wires to pass through, and the housing has one or more wire entry openings that are angled so that wires that pass through the wire openings and the contact openings before engaging the contact assembly are angled.

A single element connector includes a first cage-like structure configured to receive a wire. The first cage-like structure includes an insert end and a single contact tine coupled to a top wall of the first cage-like structure. The single contact tine extends downward from the top wall to a base of the single element connector and directs a wire inserted into the single element connector to the base of the single element connector.

Connector

A connector having a contact made of metal, and comprises a pair of elastic arms adapted to clamp a conductor of a wire, so as to electrically contact the conductor. A first release structure is on one of the pair of elastic arms and a second release structure, facing the first release structure, is on the other of the pair of elastic arms. A wedge channel is defined between the first release structure and the second release structure when the conductor is clamped between the pair of elastic arms and the wedge channel gradually widens toward free ends of the pair of elastic arms. The pair of elastic arms are adapted to be expanded away from each other by inserting an external tool into the wedge channel, so as to release the clamped conductor, improving the use convenience of the connector.

All-metal side-inserted female connector having guide hole and elastic pieces for guiding wire

An all-metal side-inserted female connector has a top side, a front side, and a rear side. The rear side is formed with a guide hole for insertion of a conductive wire or an insertion pin. A pair of elastic pieces is provided between the front side and the rear side, facing the guide hole, for clamping the conductive wire or insertion pin. The front side is formed with a limit hole aligned with the guide hole for limiting the amplitude of the swing the inserted conductive wire or insertion pin. The front side and the lower end are formed with a front weld leg and a rear leg at respective lower ends thereof. The front weld leg and the rear weld leg are electrically connected to a circuit board.

A single element electrical connector includes a single conductive contact element formed into a cage structure having a wire insert end and a wire contact end along a longitudinal centerline axis of the connector. The cage structure defines an upper pick-up surface having a surface area suitable for placement of a suction nozzle of a vacuum transfer device, as well as a pair of contact tines biased towards the centerline axis to define a contact pinch point for an exposed core of a wire inserted into the connector. A contact surface is defined by a member of the cage structure for electrical mating contact with a respective contact element on a component on which the connector is mounted.
