A semiconductor laser diode is disclosed. In an embodiment a semiconductor laser diode includes a first resonator and a second resonator, the first and second resonators having parallel resonator directions along a longitudinal direction and being monolithically integrated into the semiconductor laser diode, wherein the first resonator includes at least a part of a semiconductor layer sequence having an active layer and an active region configured to be electrically pumped to generate a first light, wherein the longitudinal direction is parallel to a main extension plane of the active layer, and wherein the second resonator has an active region with a laser-active material configured to be optically pumped by at least a part of the first light to produce a second light which is partially emitted outwards from the second resonator.

A laser amplifier device including an amplification element which includes a solid-state gain medium including a first main face and a second main face separated from each other by a distance which is smaller than the lateral dimensions. A heat spreader is thermally connected to, and substantially covering, the first main face. The heat spreader is optically transparent to a pump light and is in thermal contact with a heat sink. A first reflector substantially covers and faces the first main face and a second reflector substantially covers and faces the second main face; the reflectors being configured to reflect the pump light. The heat spreader and the first reflector are arranged such that the pump light passes through the heat spreader and through the first reflector and is reflected multiple times across the amplification element, between the first and second reflectors.

Optical amplifier has wavelength-converting element thereof excited by excitation light to produce a plurality of partially coherent light rays, of which wavelengths are respectively the same as the mutually different wavelengths of plurality of seed light rays, thereby giving off, as output light, a multi-wavelength light beam. Excitation light has a shorter wavelength than any of plurality of seed light rays and is incident on the medium portion. Multi-wavelength light beam includes a plurality of light rays amplified. Plurality of light rays amplified have wavelengths, which are respectively the same as mutually different wavelengths of plurality of seed light rays.

A high-efficiency laser pumping device is provided, wherein a dielectric with or without a tapered aperture is used to accept, guide, and concentrate a pump light toward a laser gain material. Preferably, the dielectric is also a heat insulator between the pump-light source and the laser gain material. The pump-light source includes an array of light-emitting diodes, or an array of laser diodes, or an array of mixed light-emitting-diodes and laser diodes. Preferably, the input and output faces of the dielectric are optically coated with dielectric layers to maximize the pump brightness toward the laser gain material. A high-efficiency laser-pumping system with active cooling apparatus is further provided, wherein a plural number of the optical-guiding and thermal-insulation dielectrics are arranged to receive the pump lights from a plural number of pump-light sources, configured to concentrate all the pump light toward a laser gain material.

[Solving Means] A laser device according to the present disclosure includes an excitation light source having a first reflective layer with respect to a first wavelength; a laser medium having a second reflective layer with respect to a second wavelength on a first surface facing to the excitation light source and a third reflective layer with respect to the first wavelength on a second surface opposite to the first surface; and a saturable absorber having a fourth reflective layer with respect to the second wavelength on a third surface opposite to the laser medium.

OPTICAL AMPLIFIER

An objective of the present invention is to provide an optical amplifier having a cladding excitation configuration that improves amplification efficiency. The optical amplifier includes an optical amplification unit 36 in which n (n is a natural number equal to or greater than 2) amplification fibers 34 that optically amplify signal light propagating through cores with excitation light supplied to claddings and n−1 optical input/output units 35 that input/output the signal light to/from the cores and the outside of the amplification fibers 34 are connected in series such that the amplification fibers 34 and the optical input/output units 35 are disposed in an alternating manner, an excitation light generator 31 that outputs the excitation light in multi-mode, and optical multiplexer/demultiplexers 33 that cause the excitation light from the excitation light generator 31 that has been divided into two light beams to be incident on the claddings of the amplification fibers 34 disposed at both ends of the optical amplification unit 36 and cause the signal light to be input to/output from the cores of the amplification fibers 34 disposed at both ends of the optical amplification unit 36.

OPTICAL AMPLIFIER

An objective is to provide an optical amplifier having a core excitation configuration that improves amplification efficiency. An optical amplifier according to the present invention includes an excitation light conversion fiber 11 that absorbs first excitation light L1 propagating in a cladding and having a first wavelength and emits, into a core, spontaneous emission light having a second wavelength, an oscillator 12 for causing the spontaneous emission light to be reflected on two reflectors 15 to reciprocate the light within the core of the excitation light conversion fiber 11 and laser-oscillating second excitation light L2 having the second wavelength, and an amplification fiber 13 that is connected to the excitation light conversion fiber 11 and amplifies signal light with the second excitation light L2 supplied from the excitation light conversion fiber 11 to the core.

A passively Q-switched laser with intracavity pumping is described. The passively Q-switched laser has an optically pumped gain element and a saturable absorber element. The optically pumped gain element is situated in an extended cavity of a VECSEL (Vertical Extended Cavity Surface Emitting Laser) so that the gain element is pumped by a circulating pump beam of the VECSEL. The passively Q-switched laser may produce output pulses at an eye-safe wavelength using a low gain laser transition and may use a plurality of surface emitting gain regions to pump the passively Q-switched laser.

MINIATURE SINGLE-LONGITUDINAL-MODE DIODE-PUMPED SOLID-STATE LASERS

Systems, methods, and other embodiments for a new compact narrowband diode-pumped solid-state laser device enabled by Volume Bragg Grating (VBG) technology and capable of operating at the watt or higher output power level. This laser is stable, operates in a transverse electromagnetic (TEM) output mode, and with a single-narrowband (<1 kHz FWHM) longitudinal mode with acceptable relative intensity noise (RIN) performance from 1-100 GHz. In a preferred embodiment of the present invention, the TEM output mode is a TEM.sub.00 Gaussian output mode.
