SINGLE-FREQUENCY LASER APPARATUS
A single-frequency laser apparatus comprises a mirror and a volume Bragg grating (VBG) reflector defining a laser cavity therebetween and an optical gain material for emitting and amplifying an intra-cavity beam in the laser cavity. The optical gain material comprises a transition-metal doped crystal such as a crystal doped with transition-metal ions selected from one or more of Ti.sup.3+ ions, Cr.sup.2+ ions, Cr.sup.3+ ions or Cr.sup.4+ ions. A reflectivity spectrum of the VBG reflector and an optical length of the laser cavity are selected so that a beam output from the laser cavity is a single-frequency output beam and/or includes only one longitudinal mode of the laser cavity. The laser apparatus may provide a robust, compact, low cost, high-power wavelength adjustable (from approximately 650 to 950 nm), narrow linewidth (<100 kHz), single frequency laser source which is suitable for a wide range of applications from laser sensing, spectroscopy, and high precision frequency metrology sectors.
Self-isolated nanoscale laser
Self-isolated lasers are provided by using a chiral metasurface in combination with a spin-selective gain medium and symmetry-breaking (i.e., not linearly polarized) optical pumping. In preferred embodiments the chiral metasurface is resonant, thereby proving an integrated optical resonator to support lasing. The chiral metasurface can be the spin-selective gain medium, or it can be formed on a surface of the spin-selective gain medium, or it can be distinct from the spin-selective gain medium.
Laser device
A laser device is provided that includes an element made of laser-active material and a cladding element bonded to the element so as to allow heat exchange by heat conduction between the cladding element and the element. The laser-active material emitting laser light when excited by pump light. The element being made of a glass. The cladding element being made of a material that exhibits an absorption coefficient for the pump light that is lower than a corresponding absorption coefficient of the glass. The element and cladding element being configured so that the pump light can be directed through the cladding element into the element and/or so that the pump light can be directed through the element into the cladding element.
Fiber laser device
A seed unit (MO) includes a plurality of optical paths sharing a part thereof and causing light to be resonated thereon, an amplification optical fiber (13) serving as a part of each of the optical paths and amplifying respective light beams resonated on the respective optical paths, and; an AOM (14) arranged at a part shared by the respective optical paths and switchable between a first state, in which the AOM (14) vibrates at a predetermined cycle and emits light incident from the optical paths to the optical paths, and a second state, in which the AOM (14) emits light incident from the optical paths to a path other than the optical paths. A resonance cycle of light having highest power out of the light beams resonated on the optical paths and the predetermined cycle at which the AOM (14) vibrates in the first state have a non-integral multiple relationship.
