The optical waveguide is arranged to receive light extracted from the topological cavity upon breaking of time-reversal symmetry in the topological cavity.
Resonant-based photonic intensity modulators integrated with fully etched thin-film lithium niobate waveguides
An apparatus such as an optical modulator includes a buried oxide layer is disposed on a substrate. A microring resonator and an optical waveguide are disposed on the buried oxide layer and within a bonded semiconductor layer. The optical waveguide is optically coupled to the microring resonator and inputs a first optical wave into the microring resonator. An oxide layer is deposited on top of the optical waveguide and the microring resonator. A set of electrodes is disposed adjacent to the microring resonator, and in response to an electrical signal, the set of electrodes modulates the first optical wave into a modulated optical wave of transverse magnetic polarization within the microring resonator and outputs the modulated optical wave to the optical waveguide.
Laser light source and optical network system
A laser light source includes an inner ring and an outer ring. The inner ring includes a semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA), a pair of optical circulators, a first optical filter, and a first optical waveguide connecting those in series. The outer ring includes the SOA, a pair of optical circulators, a second optical filter, an output port, and a second optical waveguide connecting those in series except for a portion shared. The inner ring operates as a gain-clamped SOA with a feedback control light defined by the first optical filter. The outer ring generates a laser output in a gain region of the clamped SOA, and with multiple peak wavelengths defined by the second optical filter, in a range from L Band to U band, applicable to WDM network systems. A WDM network system and a method of controlling the laser light source are also disclosed.

The optical gain device includes a first optical gain segment and a second optical gain segment. The first optical gain segment and the second optical gain segment being non-identical, optically interconnected with each other, and electrically isolated from each other. A PIC including a semiconductor ring laser and to an opto-electronic system that includes a PIC. The opto-electronic system can be one of a transmitter, a receiver, a transceiver, a coherent transmitter, a coherent receiver and a coherent transceiver. The opto-electronic system can for example, but not exclusively, be used for telecommunication applications, LIDAR or sensor applications.
Devices to generate light
There is provided a device to generate an output light. The device comprises a substrate, a quantum well structure (QWS) disposed on the substrate, and a waveguide disposed on the substrate and in contact with the QWS. The QWS has a first layer, a second layer, and a third layer. The second layer is disposed and quantum-confined between the first layer and the third layer. In addition, the second layer is to emit an input light when electrically biased. The input light has an optical field extending outside the QWS and into the waveguide, to optically couple the waveguide with the QWS. The waveguide is to provide an optical resonance cavity for the input light. Moreover, the waveguide has an optical outlet to transmit at least some of the input light out of the waveguide to generate the output light.
TUNABLE LASER WITH CHANNEL SELECTOR

The electronic controller is configured to control the wavelength-tunable laser such that an output wavelength of the wavelength-tunable laser performs a zigzag in time. The wavelength-tunable laser is capable of rapidly and densely scanning wavelengths across a broad spectral range.
DWDM INTRA-CAVITY LASER DEVICE
The present invention concerns a tunable Dense Wavelength Division Multiplex (DWDM) intra cavity laser device having a first optical wave guide having a first optical grating section, a second optical wave guide having a second optical grating section, an active gain section spatially separated from the second optical grating section and a phase section, and a DWDM-filter having an intra-cavity ring resonator located between the first optical wave guide and the second optical wave guide for coupling optical waves between the first and second optical wave guides. The tunable laser device is tunable in a discrete manner depending on a length of the ring resonator that is selected such that the free spectral range of the ring resonator matches a predetermined fixed wavelength spacing grid.
