20180002843 · 2018-01-04 ·

A protective textile sleeve and method of construction thereof is provided. The sleeve includes a circumferentially continuous wall extending lengthwise along a longitudinal axis between opposite ends. The wall has a first section formed from a non-heat-shrinkable, non-elastic yarn and a second section formed from one of a heat-shrinkable or elastic yarn. The first section extends lengthwise between the opposite ends and spans (X) degrees about the circumference of the wall between opposite lengthwise extending edges while in an unshrunken or stretch. The second section extends lengthwise between the opposite ends and spans (360-X) degrees about the circumference of the wall. The heat-shrikable or elastic yarn of the second section extends continuously as an uninterupted yarn between the opposite edges of the first section.

A method for preparing an HVDC cable for jointing or termination includes the step of providing a section of an HVDC cable comprising a conductor surrounded by a first semiconducting layer, and at least one insulation layer of a first polymer material surrounding the first semiconducting layer, where the insulation layer comprises conductive volatile by-products. A tape of a second polymer material is provided, where the additional layer comprises conductive volatile by-products. The tape is lapped onto the insulation layer thereby forming an additional layer. Heat is applied to crosslink the additional layer and redistribute the conductive volatile by-products.

Heat-shrinkable slitted tube

A heat-shrinkable slitted tube includes a tube main body capable of bending into a tube shape and which shrinks due to application of heat; and a heat-resistant tape which, in a closed state where the tube main body is deformed so as to close a slit extending in a length direction, fastens together areas proximate to two end portions of the tube main body so as to maintain the closed state. In the heat-shrinkable slitted tube, in a case where, by affixing the heat-resistant tape to the tube main body such that one of the end portions is positioned at a short-direction center portion of an indicator of the heat-resistant tape, the other end portion is brought together with the end portion to achieve the closed state, the heat-resistant tape is affixed so as to intervene between the areas proximate to the two end portions.

The open heat shrink device provides an innovative design for a tubing device, that can provide convenient means to protect an object without any cutting process. In other words, the open heat shrink tubing device provides stable and non-bulky means of attachment, such that the tubing device may be wrapped around an existing object to provide a protective covering over it, without the need to cut the object. Accordingly, the tubing device includes a wrapping member with an opening or slit that enables the wrapping member to be easily wrapped around the object that needs to be protected and/or heat shrink wrapped. Further, a plurality of fastening members enables to have a secure hold of the wrapping member around the object. Furthermore, the tubing device may include additional layers, and or textures for the wrapping member, thereby enabling an efficient and foolproof protective covering around different objects in different scenarios.

Protective covers for conduits such as cables and/or hoses

A protective cover for surrounding a conduit assembly in a mine has a flexible elongate main body that comprises a plurality of discrete functional layers and which is configurable as a sleeve having an outer surface, the protective cover comprising a first layer, substantially comprised of an aramid based material, that is structurally configured to provide substantial protection from the force associated with impacting projectiles originating from the external environment whilst also being configured to substantially resist internally generated forces of the type that are typically associated with a burst hose, a second layer, adjacent to the outer surface of the first layer, that is structurally configured in the form of a mesh thereby protecting the first layer from external bodies that may otherwise potentially induce tear damage to the first layer, the protective cover characterised by further comprising a third layer, adjacent to said first layer, comprising a polymeric membrane that is substantially impermeable to the passage of at least one liquid. There is also provided a system for protecting at least one or a plurality of cables and/or hoses from matter falling from above, said system comprising use of at least one such protective cover suspended from a flexible strand that is in turn attached to a fixed structure that is located substantially vertically above said at least one or a plurality of cables and/or hoses.
