Devices and methods for electrical cable splices
A splice for a skin-effect effect heating cable. The splice includes a primary shim configured to be shrunk over part of an insulation layer of a first portion of the heating cable, a secondary shim configured to be shrunk part of the insulation layer of a second portion of the heating cable, a connector configured to electrically couple the first portion of the heating cable and the second portion of the heating cable, and an outer cold shrink tube configured to be shrunk over the primary shim, the secondary shim, and the connector.

A cable termination system including a power cable sequentially including a first length of exposed outer semiconductive layer, a length of exposed insulating layer and a length of exposed electric conductor, an electric field control element adapted to be arranged around a portion of said power cable, said electric field control element including: first and second longitudinally spaced semiconducting electrodes; a field grading layer longitudinally extending between the first and second semiconducting electrodes and in electric contact therewith; an insulating layer surrounding the semiconducting electrodes and the field grading layer, wherein the first semiconducting electrode is positioned across a first boundary between the first length of exposed outer semiconductive layer and the length of exposed insulating layer, wherein said second semiconducting electrode is electrically connected with said length of exposed electric conductor, a tubular insulating body adapted to house said power cable and said electric field control element.
Reinforced water barrier over a joint
A reinforced water barrier over a joint between power cables is suited for subsea cables having different water barrier/sheathing designs. The reinforced water barrier comprises an intermediate water barrier made of lead or a lead alloy which stretches over the joint and is attached to the underlaying water barriers of the joined cables, and which is reinforced by being coated with a layer of polyethylene based adhesive followed by a layer of polymeric outer sheathing. The adhesive layer and the layer of polymeric outer sheathing are thermally set by a heat treatment.

A reinforced water barrier over a joint between power cables is suited for subsea cables having different water barrier/sheathing designs. The reinforced water barrier comprises an intermediate water barrier made of lead or a lead alloy which stretches over the joint and is attached to the underlaying water barriers of the joined cables, and which is reinforced by being coated with a layer of polyethylene based adhesive followed by a layer of polymeric outer sheathing. The adhesive layer and the layer of polymeric outer sheathing are thermally set by a heat treatment.
