Ram air turbine systems
A ram air turbine (RAT) system can include a generator configured to be turned by a RAT and to output an alternating current (AC) power, a generator control unit (GCU) configured to control an output of the generator, a rectifying module configured to rectify the AC power into a direct current (DC) power, and a DC load configured to receive the DC power from the rectifying module. The DC load can be operatively connected to the GCU to provide feedback from the DC load to the GCU. The GCU can be configured to control the output of the generator as a function of the feedback to prevent stalling of the RAT and/or doorbelling current and/or voltage in the system caused by disconnecting the generator from the DC load.
APPARATUS WITH LOAD DUMP PROTECTION
An apparatus with load dump protection incorporates first and second half-bridge circuits, first and second comparators, and first and second clamping circuits. The first comparator compares a supply voltage with a first set voltage and generates a first comparison signal while the supply voltage exceeds the first set voltage. The second comparator compares the supply voltage with a second set voltage and generates a second comparison signal while the supply voltage exceeds the second set voltage. The first clamping circuit divides the supply voltage and provides a divided voltage to the first half-bridge circuit in response to the second comparison signal. The second clamping circuit divides the supply voltage and provides a divided voltage to the second half-bridge circuit in response to the second comparison signal.
REACTIVE POWER SUPPORT FROM WIND TURBINE FACILITIES
The present invention relates to a method for operating a wind power facility in order to provide reactive power support to a power grid, the method comprising the step of increasing an amount of reactive power injected into the power grid, decreasing an amount of active power injected into the power grid by a certain amount, and dissipating and/or storing essentially said certain amount of active power in power dissipation and/or power storage means. The wind power facility may comprise a wind turbine or a wind power plant.
Method and apparatus for over voltage protection of a power system
A method and apparatus for operating an overvoltage response for an electric machine includes opening a first switching element and a second switching element in response to an overvoltage condition. In the instance that the overvoltage condition persists, the method and apparatus can further open a third switchable element to cease the overvoltage condition.

Method for controlling a wind power plant and a wind power plant
A method for controlling a wind power plant, the wind power plant including a plant controller for controlling a plurality of wind turbine generators. The method for controlling a wind power plant allows the wind power plant to continue operating through a grid fault in a weak grid environment. In the method, a fault recovery process is carried out with a wind turbine power controller during a wind turbine fault recovery state to determine a grid voltage (VWTG), compare the grid voltage to a predetermined reference voltage (Vref) to obtain a difference value, and determine a current reference (QrefVC) based on the difference value for generating a reactive current (Idref) for regulating the grid voltage to the predetermined reference grid voltage. A corresponding wind power plant is further provided.
Method of operating a DFIG wind turbine under SSR
A method is provided of protecting a wind turbine with a doubly-fed induction generator (DFIG) against a sub-synchronous resonance (SSR) event acting on the wind turbine. A plurality of power-output values or current-output values is measured over a given period of time that corresponds to a measurement cycle. It is determined whether power-output values or current-output-values measured in the at-least-one measurement cycle are indicative of an SSR-event critical for further operation of the wind turbine. The wind turbine is shut down if the measured power-output values or current-output values are indeed indicative of an SSR-event critical for operation of the wind turbine.
A PROTECTION ARRANGEMENT FOR A TWO-STROKE INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE PROVIDING POWER TO A GENERATOR
An inventive protection arrangement is for a two-stroke internal combustion engine providing power to a generator having output lines with circuit breakers. The protection arrangement comprises a heat resistor bank and a circuit breaker for each output line. The circuit breaker is connected to the output line in a parallel manner with the circuit breaker of the same output line, and the resistor bank is connectable to the each output line via the circuit breaker of the output line. The protection arrangement further comprises a control unit having connections to the circuit breakers and the circuit breakers, in order to monitor the circuit breakers and to control the circuit breakers. In case the circuit breaker of at least one output line is tripped to open, the control unit is arranged to control the circuit breakers of the output lines to connect the heat resistor bank to output lines.
Battery-supported braking system for a wind turbine
The present disclosure is directed to a protection system for a wind turbine power system connected to a power grid. The protection system includes a main brake circuit having at least one brake resistive element and at least one brake switch element, a battery system, and a controller. The brake resistive element is coupled to at least one of a DC link of a power converter of the wind turbine power system, windings of a rotor of the generator, or windings of a stator of a generator of the wind turbine power system via the brake switch element. The battery system is coupled to the generator via a battery switch element. In addition, the controller is configured to disconnect the power converter and the generator from the power grid and connect at least one of the main brake circuit or the battery system to the generator in response to detecting an electromagnetic (EM) torque loss event so as to generate an EM torque.
