Arrangement for overvoltage protection of subsea electrical apparatus
An arrangement for an overvoltage protection of a subsea electrical apparatus and a method for operating it. The arrangement includes a tank submersible below a water surface level, an electrical apparatus accommodated in the tank, and a surge arrester arrangement accommodated in the tank and coupled to a power supply of the electrical apparatus in the tank for providing the overvoltage protection of the electrical apparatus. The arrangement further includes a controllable grounding switch for connecting the surge arrester arrangement to a ground point in response to a control of the grounding switch to a closed state and for disconnecting the surge arrester arrangement from the ground point in response to a control of the grounding switch to an open state.
METHODS AND SYSTEMS FOR REMOTE MONITORING OF SURGE PROTECTIVE DEVICES
A surge protective device includes an overvoltage protection circuit and a control module coupled to the overvoltage protection circuit that is configured to monitor at least one performance characteristic of the overvoltage protection circuit and is further configured to communicate the at least one performance characteristic to a destination external to the surge protective device.

Lightning protection spark gaps for cable devices
A spark gap circuit includes a circuit board. The spark gap circuit also includes an input configured to connect to the circuit board and to receive signals. The spark gap circuit also includes a spark gap configured to connect to the circuit board and the input. The spark gap circuit also includes an output configured to connect to the spark gap. The spark gap is configured to cause a return loss between the input and the output to be within a first predetermined range. The spark gap is configured to cause a parasitic capacitance between the input and the output to be within a second predetermined range.
Protection system for an electric meter
A protection system described herein includes a first connector, a second connector, and a voltage-limiter device. The first connector is configured to connect to a first load-side terminal of an electric meter, and the second connector is configured to connect to a second load-side terminal of the electric meter. In a circuit between the first connector and the second connector, the voltage-limiter device is configured to clamp a voltage between the first and second load-side terminals at a trigger voltage, to prevent a greater voltage from reaching the electric meter when a service-disconnect switch of the electric meter is open and an external voltage greater than the trigger voltage is applied to a load side of the electric meter. The voltage-limiter device provides a conductive path in parallel with a customer premises associated with the electric meter when the voltage between first and second connectors reaches the trigger voltage.
Spacing-assured electric field shield for gas discharge tube of motor control
A spacing-assured gas discharge tube assembly is installed on a printed circuit board, which may be part of a motor controller. The discharge tube assembly includes a tube body and an electrostatic spacing shield disposed at least partially around the tube body. The shield is configured to prevent close physical proximity of adjacent structures having electrostatic fields that may alter the breakdown voltage of the tube body.
