SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR AUTOMATED DETECTION OF SWITCH CAPACITOR OPERATION
A power distribution monitoring system (100) is provided that can include a number of features. The system can include a plurality of monitoring devices configured to attach to conductor(s) on a power grid distribution network. In some embodiments, a monitoring device is disposed on each conductor of a three-phase network and utilizes a complex platform of software and hardware to detect faults and disturbances that can be analyzed to determine or predict the risk of wildfires.
CONTROLLING POWER TO A LOAD BASED ON SENSED ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
Electrical load controllers and methods for controlling conduction of electrical power to loads are provided that include determination of a baseline value based on a dynamic collection of past value(s), determination of a threshold humidity value as a function of a baseline humidity value and a second humidity value greater than the baseline humidity value and/or based on a received ambient light value, and/or determination of whether to transition a switching circuit to an ON state based on a current humidity value, other sensed environmental condition, baseline humidity value, and/or a threshold value.
Power supply with current limit on individual conductors
Circuits, methods, and apparatus that may provide power supply voltages in a safe and reliable manner that meets safety and regulatory concerns and does not exceed physical limitations of cables and other circuits and components used to provide the power supply voltages. One example may provide a cable having a sufficient number of conductors to provide power without exceeding a maximum current density for the conductors. Another example may provide a cable having more than the sufficient number of conductors in order to provide an amount of redundancy. Current sense circuits may be included for one or more conductors. When an excess current is sensed, a power source in the power supply may be shut down, the power source may be disconnected from one or more conductors, or both events may occur.
Fast-slow injection for recovery from transient response and voltage collapse with avoidance of SSR and SSCI
An intelligent impedance injection module is for use with transmission lines in a power grid. The intelligent impedance injection module has a plurality of transformer-less impedance injector units and a controller. The controller changes injector gain of the impedance injector units to compensate for current swings in a transmission line.
Microgrid overcurrent protection device
A microgrid overcurrent protection device and a method for overcurrent protection of a microgrid. The protection device including a voltage controlled overcurrent detector for detecting an overcurrent above an overcurrent threshold and a phase directional detector arranged for current direction in a downstream or an upstream direction. The overcurrent threshold of the voltage controlled overcurrent detector is set at an upper overcurrent threshold when a measured voltage Vm is above a threshold voltage Vs and set at a lower overcurrent threshold when the measured voltage Vm is below the threshold voltage Vs. The device further includes a timer arranged for generating a trigger signal with a first delay time period when a downstream current direction and an overcurrent are detected and with a second delay time period when an upstream current direction and an overcurrent are detected.
Control apparatus, power control system, control method, and storage medium having program stored thereon
A control apparatus comprises: a first acquisition unit configured to acquire information indicating charging and discharging performance of an electric power device and environmental information on the electric power device; a second acquisition unit configured to acquire information indicating a characteristic of operation of charging and discharging the electric power device; a correction unit configured to correct the information indicating the charging and discharging performance of the electric power device on the basis of the environmental information; and a control unit configured to control the operation of charging and discharging the electric power device according to a management plan, the management plan being based on the information indicating the charging and discharging performance corrected by the correction unit and the information indicating the characteristic of the operation of charging and discharging the electric power device.
Methods, systems, and computer readable media for protecting and controlling a microgrid with a dynamic boundary
Methods, systems, and computer readable mediums for protecting and controlling a microgrid with a dynamic boundary are disclosed. One method includes detecting a fault in a microgrid that includes a dynamic point-of-common-coupling (PCC), in response to determining that the microgrid is operating in a grid-connected mode, isolating the fault by tripping a microgrid side smart switch and a grid side smart switch that are located immediately adjacent to the fault, initiating the reclosing of the grid side smart switch, and initiating the reclosing for the microgrid side smart switch via resynchronization if the grid side smart switch is successfully reclosed, and in response to determining that the microgrid is operating in an islanded mode, isolating the fault by tripping a microgrid side smart switch that is located immediately adjacent to the fault, and initiating the reclosing of the microgrid side smart switch.
CONDITION-BASED CIRCUIT BREAKER MAINTENANCE ARRANGEMENT FOR ELECTRICAL POWER DISTRIBUTION INFRASTRUCTURE
A computer-automated maintaining of circuit breakers in a power distribution infrastructure based upon operating conditions recorded during breaker events of particular identified circuit breakers is described herein. The breaker event data sets are accumulated initially by file servers in a variety of formats. A parser performs an automated parsing of the breaker event data sets to render breaker event records that are thereafter stored in a central data repository. Maintenance engines apply data analysis and decision logic to particular event records for particular identified circuit breakers obtained from the central data repository and issue requests for actions to be taken with respect to the particular identified circuit breakers based upon operating conditions experienced by the particular identified circuit breakers.
Control system for an electrical apparatus
A system includes an electrical apparatus configured to monitor or control one or more aspects of an electrical power distribution network; and a control system including more than one electronic processor, where the electronic processors are configured to cause the control system to interact with the electrical apparatus, an interaction between the control system and the electrical apparatus including one or more of the control system providing information to the electrical apparatus and the control system receiving information from the electrical apparatus, and if some of the electronic processors are unable to cause the control system to interact with the electrical apparatus, at least one of the other electronic processors is able to cause the control system to interact with the apparatus.
Sensor-based remote condition monitoring device and method for disconnector devices
A device, a method and a system for monitoring an electrical connection status of a disconnector device are disclosed. The disconnector device is connectable to pole-mounted equipment in a power distribution or transmission grid, thereby disconnecting the pole-mounted equipment. The connection status monitoring device includes a determining section configured to determine whether the disconnector device has been activated and to generate connection status indicator data, indicative of whether the disconnector device has been activated. The determining section further includes a wireless communication section which is adapted to connect to a wireless communication infrastructure using a wireless communication protocol, and to transmit the connection status indicator data over the wireless communication infrastructure.
