Apparatus (200) for use as a motor or generator, comprising: a first part (210); a second part (230) movable relative to the first part (210) and spaced from the first part (210) by an air gap (260); and a plurality of spaced activatable magnet elements (220) provided on the first part (210), each activatable magnet element (220) being operative when activated by application of an electric current thereto to direct a magnetic field across the air gap (260) towards the second part (230); wherein each activatable magnet element (220) comprises: a pole piece (222) defining an air-gap facing surface (223A, 223B), the pole piece (222) comprising: a first limb (224A); a second limb (224B); and a coil-winding section (224C) positioned between the first and second limbs (224A, 224B); a permanent magnet arrangement (225) provided between the first and second limbs 224A, 224B) of the pole piece; and an electrically conductive coil (226) wound around the coil-winding section (224C) of the pole piece, wherein the electrically conductive coil (226) is operative to generate a magnetic flux oriented to oppose the magnetic flux of the permanent magnet arrangement (225); characterised in that the pole piece (222) further comprises a parallel flux path section (224D) extending in parallel to the coil-winding section (224C) operative to allow magnetic flux from the permanent magnet arrangement (225) to flow in parallel to the coil-winding section (224C).
MOTOR/GENERATOR
Apparatus (200) for use as a motor or generator, comprising: a first part (210); a second part (230) movable relative to the first part (210) and spaced from the first part (210) by an air gap (260); and a plurality of spaced activatable magnet elements (220) provided on the first part (210), each activatable magnet element (220) being operative when activated by application of an electric current thereto to direct a magnetic field across the air gap (260) towards the second part (230); wherein each activatable magnet element (220) comprises: a pole piece (222) defining an air-gap facing surface (223A, 223B), the pole piece (222) comprising: a first limb (224A); a second limb (224B); and a coil-winding section (224C) positioned between the first and second limbs (224A, 224B); a permanent magnet arrangement (225) provided between the first and second limbs 224A, 224B) of the pole piece; and an electrically conductive coil (226) wound around the coil-winding section (224C) of the pole piece, wherein the electrically conductive coil (226) is operative to generate a magnetic flux oriented to oppose the magnetic flux of the permanent magnet arrangement (225); characterised in that the pole piece (222) further comprises a parallel flux path section (224D) extending in parallel to the coil-winding section (224C) operative to allow magnetic flux from the permanent magnet arrangement (225) to flow in parallel to the coil-winding section (224C).
HYBRID SURFACE MAGNET MACHINE
A hybrid electrical machine containing surface mounted magnets which includes a magnetically permeable cylindrically shaped stator assembly having at least one stator winding formed about a plurality of stator teeth, a rotor assembly concentrically disposed within the stator assembly, including a magnetically permeable rotor backiron, a rotational drive mechanism coupled to the rotor backiron, and a plurality of protruding rotor poles, each including a magnetically permeable pole support assembly, a winding provided around the pole support assembly, and a radially magnetized permanent magnet assembly disposed about the pole support assembly.
Permanent Magnet Machine and Rotor Therefor
An electric machine includes a stator and a rotor. The rotor includes stacked laminations forming a rotor core. The rotor rotates relative to the stator about a central axis. The rotor core has an outer diameter. Each lamination includes a plurality of magnet slots. Each magnet slot includes a ferrite permanent magnet located therein, adjacent pairs of the ferrite permanent magnets defining a number of poles. Each of the laminations includes a plurality of non-circular rotor bar apertures spaced about the central axis of the rotor and disposed adjacent to and radially inward of the rotor outer diameter. A non-cylindrical rotor bar is disposed in each respective of the plurality of rotor bar apertures. The rotor bars are formed of a conductive material, wherein at least some of the plurality of rotor bars collectively form a rotor bar cage.
Permanent Magnet Machine and Rotor Therefor
An electric machine includes a stator and a rotor. The rotor includes stacked laminations forming a rotor core. The rotor rotates relative to the stator about a central axis. The rotor core has an outer diameter. Each lamination includes a plurality of magnet slots. Each magnet slot includes a ferrite permanent magnet located therein, adjacent pairs of the ferrite permanent magnets defining a number of poles. Each of the laminations includes a plurality of non-circular rotor bar apertures spaced about the central axis of the rotor and disposed adjacent to and radially inward of the rotor outer diameter. A non-cylindrical rotor bar is disposed in each respective of the plurality of rotor bar apertures. The rotor bars are formed of a conductive material, wherein at least some of the plurality of rotor bars collectively form a rotor bar cage.
PLANAR DRIVE SYSTEM, METHOD FOR OPERATING A PLANAR DRIVE SYSTEM, AND STATOR FOR DRIVING A ROTOR
A planar drive system comprises a stator and a rotor. The stator comprises a plurality of stator conductors. The rotor comprises a magnet device comprising at least one rotor magnet. The stator is configured to energize the stator conductors. A magnetic interaction can be produced between energized stator conductors of the stator and the magnet device of the rotor in order to drive the rotor. The stator is configured to carry out the energizing of the stator conductors by a current control based on a pulse-width modulation. Due to the current control, a ripple current in energized stator conductors of the stator and thereby an alternating magnetic field can be generated. The rotor comprises at least one rotor coil in which an alternating voltage can be induced due to the alternating magnetic field.
ELECTRIC ROTATING MACHINE
In an electric rotating machine which can improve rotating machine efficiency by suppressing a harmonic component of rotor magnetomotive force and reducing harmonic core loss, a permanent magnet is furnished in some of inter-magnetic pole portions, the inter-magnetic pole portion being formed between a first claw-shaped magnetic pole portion and a second such pole portion; the shapes of first and second chamfered portions provided in the inter-magnetic pole portion where the permanent magnet is inserted, differ from those of first and second chamfered portions provided in an inter-magnetic pole portion having no permanent magnet inserted; or the shapes of a first and second magnetic flux adjusting portions provided in the inter-magnetic pole portion where the permanent magnet is inserted, differ from those of first and second magnetic flux adjusting portions provided in the inter-magnetic pole portion where no permanent magnet is inserted.

Claw-pole motor with rotor flux concentrators and poles and stator with solenoid coil and alternating stator teeth
A claw-pole motor comprising a non-magnetic rotary shaft having a longitudinal axis, a plurality of flux concentrators extending along the longitudinal axis of the rotary shaft, and a plurality of magnetic claw poles extending along the longitudinal axis of the rotary shaft, each of the plurality of flux concentrators alternating with each of the magnetic claw poles about the rotary shaft, and a stator having a plurality of coil assemblies, each coil assembly including a solenoid coil and an enclosure having a upper portion and lower portion, the upper portion and the lower portion of the enclosure having alternating stator teeth about the longitudinal axis.
MOTOR STATOR, DRIVE MOTOR, AND ELECTRIC VEHICLE
A motor stator, in which a flux winding is bent into a wave shape, and may be divided into a plurality of first parts, a plurality of second parts, and a plurality of third parts based on winding positions on a stator core. In a process of embedding flux windings into stator slots on the stator core, the flux windings may be directly sunk into the stator slots one by one, so that the second part is embedded into the stator slot, the first part is located on an outer surface of the stator core, and the third part is located on an inner surface of the stator core. It is quite easy to wind the flux windings on the stator core, so that a problem of difficult tapeout caused by a small volume of the motor stator is resolved.
