Multiplex of high definition radio stations
11700161 · 2023-07-11 · ·

A system for peak-to-average-power ratio (PAPR) reduction of a frequency shifted plurality of digital broadcast signals taking into account the combined signal peaks in order to transmit the signals more efficiently in a single broadcast transmission system. The PAPR algorithm takes into account a rotating constellation phase offset for the shifted signals corresponding to the amount of applied frequency shift. In the case of a dual sideband In-Band-On-Channel (IBOC) signal typically used in conjunction with an FM carrier in the center, the sidebands can be interleaved to create a new IBOC signal definition and take the place of the FM carrier for an all-digital transmission that is backward compatible with IBOC receivers allowing for a gradual migration to all digital broadcasting.

System, apparatus and method for hardware and software support of radio functionality

In one example, a system includes: a circuit board; at least one tuner adapted on the circuit board to receive and process a radio frequency (RF) signal to output a downconverted modulated signal; a processor adapted on the circuit board to demodulate the downconverted modulated signal, process the demodulated downconverted signal and output an audio signal; a location on the circuit board to receive a demodulator circuit; and a shunt element adapted on the circuit board to direct the downconverted modulated signal from the at least one tuner to the processor when the system does not include the demodulator circuit.

A radio receiver is disclosed. The radio receiver includes an analog tuner and a baseband processor to provide radio functions. The baseband processor is coupled to the analog tuner. The radio receiver further includes a memory, a controller coupled to the analog tuner, the baseband processor and the memory. The controller is configured to perform an operation, the operation includes causing the analog tuner to analyze a selected FM frequency to determine if the selected FM frequency is associated with a digital radio mondiale (DRM) plus station by first coarsely determine if the selected FM frequency may be associated with a DRM plus station and if coarse determination fails, marking the FM frequency as not being associated with a DRM plus station, wherein if the coarse determination is successful, retrying a selected number of times to continue to determine if the selected FM frequency is associated with a DRM plus station.

Aspects of the disclosure are directed to providing signals utilizing two or more sources. As may be implemented in accordance with one or more embodiments, a method and/or apparatus involves processing respective signals carrying broadcast data provided by different receiver circuits that respectively receive the same broadcast data. The signals received from the respective receiver circuits are equalized, and corresponding sets of the broadcast data from each of the equalized signals are selectively combined to provide a combined signal carrying the broadcast data. This approach may be used, for example, to generate broadcast data utilizing source data from two or more receivers, such as may be received on different signal mediums (e.g., over-the-air digital radio and Wi-Fi digital radio), and therein providing enhanced reception.

Method for improving digital radio mondiale (DRM) acquisition time

A system and method for improving the DRM (Digital Radio Mondiale) signal acquisition time stores the demodulated DRM signal and accesses it from memory in order to avoid the additional time taken in waiting for service description channel (SDC) data. The system includes an antenna to receive a DRM signal. A tuner tunes the frequency of receiver to a desired range. An asynchronous sample rate converter (ASRC) converts the sampling rate of the received signal to a demodulator sampling rate. A demodulator demodulates the received signal. A memory stores the demodulated signal for reuse. A channel splitter splits the received signal into a fast access channel (FAC), a service description channel (SDC), and a main service channel (MSC). A channel decoder decodes the channel split data. A middleware and an application parses and processes the data in order to output the processed data.

System and method for reducing the service switching time between frequencies in a digital radio

A system and method enhance the user experience in a digital radio by reducing the service switching time between frequencies. The system includes a digital radio transmitter to transmit digital data in a digital radio broadcast standard. The digital radio transmitter includes a first service channel to carry basic service selection information and a second service channel to carry information required for decoding. The digital radio transmitter includes a main service channel to transmit digital audio services and data services. A central server stores information channel data of all digital radio stations. A digital radio receiver stores the first service channel and the second service channel information of all frequencies other than the currently tuned frequency to the receiver internal storage and uses the stored information for demodulating and decoding at the time of service switching between frequencies.
