The respective control data include data for managing a communication link between a baseband unit and a respective remote antenna unit. The respective user data represents a respective uplink signal received by each of the remote antenna units from one or more mobile stations. The uplink signal combiner is configured to generate additional user data representing a first combined uplink signal by combining the user data extracted from the data packets. The uplink signal combiner is configured to transmit an additional data packet to the baseband unit. The additional data packet includes the additional user data and additional control data derived from the control data from the received data packets.
