Transcription of communications
A method to transcribe communications may include obtaining, at a first device, an audio signal that originates at a remote device during a communication session. The audio signal may be shared between the first device and a second device. The method may also include obtaining an indication that the second device is associated with a remote transcription system and in response to the second device being associated with the remote transcription system, directing the audio signal to the remote transcription system by one of the first device and the second device instead of both the first device and the second device directing the audio signal to the remote transcription system when the second device is not associated with the remote transcription system.
Communication transfer between devices
A method may include obtaining an indicator that a first device is in a location of a second device and in response to obtaining the indicator, sending a redirect request to a communication service provider of the first device to direct, to the second device, incoming communication requests handled by the communication service provider that are directed to the first device. The method may further include after sending the redirect request and after a communication request to a communication session is directed to the first device, obtaining, at the second device, a communication indication to participate in the communication session. The method may further include directing audio of the communication session to a transcription system and obtaining, at the second device, the transcription of the audio from the transcription system. The method may also include presenting, by the second device, the audio and the transcription.
Transcription generation from multiple speech recognition systems
A method may include obtaining first audio data originating at a first device during a communication session between the first device and a second device. The method may also include obtaining a first text string that is a transcription of the first audio data, where the first text string may be generated using automatic speech recognition technology using the first audio data. The method may also include obtaining a second text string that is a transcription of second audio data, where the second audio data may include a revoicing of the first audio data by a captioning assistant and the second text string may be generated by the automatic speech recognition technology using the second audio data. The method may further include generating an output text string from the first text string and the second text string and using the output text string as a transcription of the speech.
VIDEO RELAY SERVICE, COMMUNICATION SYSTEM, AND RELATED METHODS FOR CONNECTING USERS WITH N11 SERVICES IN A VIDEO RELAY SERVICE ENVIRONMENT
Video relay services, communication systems, and methods are disclosed connecting users with N11 services in a video relay service environment. A video relay service may comprise at least one server configured to manage a customer database including customer records for audibly-impaired users of the video relay service, manage an N11 database including alternate numbers corresponding to N11 codes for a plurality of different locations defined by political boundaries, receive incoming video calls including an N11 code from a calling party, resolve the N11 code to an appropriate alternate number for an N11 service based on a political boundary for the calling party responsive to a query of the N11 database, establish a first connection between a video communication device associated with the calling party and a call assistant station associated with a sign language interpreter, and establish a second connection between the call assistant station and the N11 service.
SEMIAUTOMATED RELAY METHOD AND APPARATUS
A relay for captioning a hearing user's (HU's) voice signal during a phone call between an HU and a hearing assisted user (AU), the HU using an HU device and the AU using an AU device where the HU voice signal is transmitted from the HU device to the AU device, the relay comprising a display screen, a processor linked to the display and programmed to perform the steps of receiving the HU voice signal from the AU device, transmitting the HU voice signal to a remote automatic speech recognition (ASR) server running ASR software that converts the HU voice signal to ASR generated text, the remote ASR server located at a remote location from the relay, receiving the ASR generated text from the ASR server, present the ASR generated text for viewing by a call assistant (CA) via the display and transmitting the ASR generated text to the AU device.
Dual compatibility phone system
A method of operating a captioned telephone comprising the steps of dialing a telephone number to a relay gateway, connecting to the gateway over a communication network, performing a test to assess communication network quality, based on the test results, setting up the captioned telephone to operate in at least one of a first mode and a second mode wherein each of the first and second modes is one of (i) a PSTN mode in which data is communicated between the captioned telephone and the relay gateway via analog transmission and (ii) an IP mode in which data is communicated between the captioned telephone and the relay gateway via the Internet.
Text assisted telephony on wireless device method and apparatus
A communication system and method usable to facilitate communication between a hearing user and an assisted user. In particular, the system employs a wireless portable tablet or other portable electronic computing device linked to a captioning enabled phone as a remote interface for that phone, thereby providing an assisted user with more options, more freedom, and improved usability of the system.
Method and apparatus for sound enhancement
A method and apparatus for sound enhancement are provided in this invention. The method comprises: obtaining sound signals and converting the sound signals into digital signals; decomposing the digital signals to obtain a plurality of IMFs or pseudo-IMFs; selectively amplifying the amplitudes of the IMFs and pseudo-IMFs; reconstituting the selectively amplified IMFs or pseudo-IMFs to obtain reconstituted signals and converting the reconstituted signals into analog signals. The present invention is based on the Hilbert-Huang transform. Through the present invention, the sound can be selectively amplified, and only the high-frequency consonants in the sound are amplified without vowel, which effectively improves the clarity of the enhanced sound. The present invention overcomes the problems in the current sound enhancement method which makes the sound louder without increasing the clarity.
Enhanced incoming call notifications
Methods and systems are provided for providing enhanced incoming call notifications for users who utilized a relay application designed for those with speech, visual, or hearing impairments or disabilities. An indication that a calling party is attempting to initiate an incoming call intended for a receiving party that utilizes a relay application that assists users having hearing, visual, or speech disabilities is received by an intermediate party. A chat session is established utilizing the relay application between the intermediate party and the calling party. Additionally, a Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) session is established that does not include a voice session. Upon the chat session being terminated from within the relay application, the VoIP session is terminated.
System for providing caption feedback service to call center agent during phone call between call center agent and TRS user
A system for providing a caption feedback service to a call center agent includes a plurality of TRS providers, a caption feedback system, and a plurality of call centers. The TRS providers provide a transcription service to TRS users during phone calls between the TRS users and peers, and the call centers connect phone calls between customers and call agents. The caption feedback system is connected to the caption feedback agents of the TRS providers and caption feedback clients of the call centers via data networks. If the caption feedback system finds that the TRS user's phone number matches the customer's phone number and the peer's phone number matches the call center's phone number, the caption feedback server connects the TRS provider to the call center via data network to enable transfer of the caption data of the call agent's voice from the TRS provider to the call center.
