Processing messages with a device server operating in a telephone
A system that incorporates teachings of the present disclosure may include, for example, a computer-readable storage medium in a telephone having computer instructions to execute a web server application in the telephone. The web server application can be operable to detect an incoming plain old telephone service call, identify a calling party identifier from the incoming plain old telephone service call, and direct one of a plurality of devices detected by web server application to present the calling party identifier. Other embodiments are disclosed.
Mobile device synchronization to a gateway
A gateway 202 identifies mobile devices 210 connected to it. Communication access numbers associated with the mobile devices are then obtained and synchronized with communication access numbers associated with the gateway. The gateway notifies a service provider for the mobile device that its calls should now be routed to the gateway instead of the mobile device. Calls received by the gateway can then be delayed, reformatted and/or otherwise transformed/controlled by the gateway and passed to connected landline devices.
Method and apparatus for testing in a communication network
Method and apparatus for testing in a communication network is described. One example of the invention relates to a method of testing in a voice over internet protocol (VOIP) network. At least one test script is obtained from the VOIP network at an enhanced terminal adapter. The enhanced terminal adapter is configured to couple at least one communication device to the VOIP network. The at least one test script is executed within a scripting framework of the enhanced terminal adapter to interact with at least one component coupled to the VOIP network. Results of the execution of the at least one test script are transmitted from the enhanced terminal adapter to the VOIP network.
Systems, methods, devices and arrangements for cost-effective routing
A variety of methods, systems, devices and arrangements are implemented for assessing and/or controlling call routing for VoIP/VioIP calls. According to one such method, endpoint devices are used to monitor and/or assess the call-quality. The assessment is sent to a centralized server arrangement and call-routing is controlled therefrom. Endpoint devices employ a decentralized testing mechanism to further monitor and assess call quality including the use of test connections. Aspects of call quality are analyzed and attributed to endpoint devices and/or local connections or networks to distinguish intermediate routing issues from local/endpoint issues.
VIRTUAL PBX BASED ON FEATURE SERVER MODULES
In one embodiment, an internet telephony apparatus includes a network interface, connectable to a communication network, for sending and receiving internet telephony signals over the communication network. The apparatus further includes a telephone interface, connectable to an analog telephone device, for sending telephone control signals to the telephone device and receiving telephone control signals entered through a keypad of the telephone device. The apparatus further includes a controller operably coupled between the network interface and the telephone interface, the controller implementing a private internet telephony feature server for directing telephone calls, intended for the telephone device, received as internet telephony signals over the network interface and managing telephone services on behalf of the telephone device based on the telephone control signals received from the telephone device over the telephone interface.
Prioritized call sessions
A local network call handling device is configured to establish multiple concurrent call sessions between local network end devices and an external network. When a prioritized end device attempts to establish a call session, the call handling device may initially determine if a first call session identifier is available. If so, the call session can be established using that first identifier. If the first identifier is in use for a call session of another end device, the call handling device may either use a different call session identifier for the prioritized end device session or may drop a pre-existing call session to free an identifier for use in connection with the prioritized end device.
Amplified cable modem
The amplified cable modem includes a master circuit, a data network circuit, a telephony circuit, and a housing. The master circuit, a data network circuit, a telephony circuit are electrically interconnected. The housing contains the master circuit, the data network circuit, and the telephony circuit. The master circuit: a) receives the input signal; b) splits the input signal into the data network signal and the telephony signal; c) recombines signals from the data network circuit and the telephony circuit into the output signal; and, d) transmits the output signal to the external data source. The amplified cable modem includes a collection of amplifiers configured to maximize transmission power while generating minimal electrical noise in the amplified signals.

Method and apparatus for interfacing analog page party system to internet protocol page party system
An audio bridge unit is provided for connecting a conventional analog page/party station in an analog page/party system to IP-based page/party stations that employ multicast Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) technology to support page/party communications between analog page/party stations and the VoIP page/party stations. The audio bridge unit converts page and/or party audio line(s) to multicast channel(s). The audio bridge unit analog interfaces for its respective page and/or party lines, and each analog interface is assigned to an independent multicast channel on which it will transmit and receive full duplex audio between an analog page/party station and one or more IP-based page/party stations. The audio bridge unit provides the ability to configure the multicast group, port and Time to Live (TTL) setting for each of the analog channels associated with the page and/or party lines.
Virtual telephone extension
The present disclosure is directed to a method and system for routing communications. A plurality of communications-enabled devices are coupled to a communications network. Each communications-enabled device has a device identifier. A user-programmable database associates each of a plurality of user identifiers with a device identifier. A router circuit is coupled to the communications network through a portal communication device having a portal identifier. A user designates a destination user identifier when making a communication. The router circuit switches the call, directing the call to a destination device identifier responsive to the user-programmable database association between the destination user identifier and a device identifier. According to certain aspects, communications are directed to users and are routed to associated equipment, a user identifier serving as a virtual extension number. Users remotely program the database to direct their communications to communications-enabled devices at various destinations.
