A print media detection apparatus may include a movable scanner bar for scanning media, a feeder tray for supplying the print media, a print media indicator and a controller. The print media indicator may include a first portion to interact with the print media within the feeder tray and a second portion coupled to the first portion to move in response to movement of the first portion. The scanner bar is to sense the second portion of the media indicator. The controller is to determine a characteristic of the print media within the feeder tray based upon sensing of the second portion by the scanner bar.

An information processing apparatus includes a processor configured to: obtain characteristic values including smoothness and basis weight of a recording medium; and identify the type of the recording medium on the basis of the smoothness and the basis weight.

An image forming apparatus includes an image forming section, sheet type list storage, an authentication section, a display controller, and a display section. The image forming section forms a data image on a sheet. The sheet type list storage stores user sheet type lists therein on a user-by-user basis. The user sheet type lists each include one or more sheet types extracted from among sheet types included in a sheet type list. The sheet types are sheet types that the image forming section is capable of coping with. An authentication section authenticates a user. The display section displays the sheet type selection screen generated by the display controller.

An information processing apparatus includes a memory storing instructions and a processor to execute the instructions to perform operations. Four sides of a document included in captured image data are detected. Lengths of the detected four sides of the document are calculated. The operations further include determining which of a plurality of predefined paper sizes corresponds to the document based on the calculated lengths of the four sides. The determined corresponding paper size is set as a document size of the document.

Control points are positioned in a lattice form on a scanned image of a print product, for performing position matching between the scanned image and a reference image registered in advance. An approximate line of a column and an approximate line of a row intersecting the approximate line of the column are calculated based on two or more control points positioned in the same column and the same row as one control point. One control point determined to be corrected is corrected based on the respective approximate lines of the column and the row. The print product is inspected by comparing a position-matched scanned image generated based on the control points including position-corrected control points and position-updated control points, and the reference image.

An image forming apparatus includes a light transmitting member provided at a reading position set in a conveyance path and an opposite plate opposed thereto, and a document being conveyed passes between this opposite plate and the light transmitting member. On an opposing surface of the opposite plate to the light transmitting member, a low brightness area, for example, like a gray color and a high brightness area, for example, like a white color, having a higher brightness than the low brightness area are formed adjacent to each other in a conveyance direction of the document. Then, an image reader sets a home position of a scanning unit to a first position or a second position corresponding to either the low brightness area or the high brightness area to read the document passing through the reading position.

Embodiments are directed at a systems, methods, and apparatuses for automatically aligning the lead edges of a document stack loaded in a scanner system. An automated jogger system includes feeder gate elements which are driven forward and backwards in an oscillating motion. This motion causes the documents in the stack to slide between each other, causing the documents to move and rotate towards the feeder gate elements, aligning the lead edges of the stack prior to being fed into the document scanner.
