An image processing apparatus capable of preventing recurrence of a jam at the time of document reading is provided. The image processing apparatus includes a feeder, a reader, a storage device, and a processor. The processor causes the image processing apparatus to function as: a reading unit configured to cause the reader to read a document by a reading method among a plurality of reading methods including a conveyance-based reading method using the feeder; a storage control unit configured to, in a case where reading of a document with the reader by the conveyance-based reading method has failed, store information on the document in the storage device; and a notification unit configured to, in a case where an instruction to read again the document by the conveyance-based reading method is issued, issue, in accordance with the information, a notification that prompts to change the reading method set for the document.

An image forming device includes: an image forming unit that forms an image on a transfer medium; and a controller that controls multiple image readers capable of performing image reading for the same surface of the transfer medium, and acquires reading results from the image readers. The controller is capable of performing failure/no-failure determination for the image on the transfer medium based on the reading results, of switching image reading by the multiple image readers between reading by a first number of image readers and reading by a second number of image readers, the second number being smaller than the first number, and of enabling, while the second number of image readers perform reading, at least one of the other image readers to execute a maintenance operation for the at least one of the other image readers.

A multi-function printer includes a printer body and a scanner body. A printer module is disposed in the printer body. At least one first scanning module, at least one feeding roller and a sensor are disposed in the scanner body. The feeding roller and the sensor are disposed at an inlet of a sheet passage. When the sensor senses presence of a sheet medium, the first scanning module immediately performs image scanning on the sheet medium to obtain image data, and then the printer module prints out the image data.

The multifunction peripheral of the present invention includes an ADF document crop function. According to this ADF document crop function, front side image shaping processing for cutting out a front side document image corresponding to the image on the front side of a document, from a front side read image of the document and for correcting the tilt of the front side document image is performed. Then, on the basis of shaping information in the front side image shaping processing, back side image shaping processing for cutting out a back side document image from a back side read image of the document and for correcting the tilt of the back side document image is performed.

The invention relates to a method for scanning originals using a scanner, for example a flatbed scanner, said method comprising the steps of: (i) performing a pre-scan using a scanner bed (2) of the scanner, said scanner bed (2) having an extension in the x-direction and in the y-direction, in order to measure an x-extension (4) between a smallest (4a) and a largest extension value (4b) in the x-direction and to measure a y-extension (6) between a smallest (6a) and a largest extension value (6b) in the y-direction in respect of each of the originals on the scanner bed (2), and creating scanning frames (R1, R2, R3, R4, R5, R6) associated with the originals from the respectively measured extension values, (ii) specifying the scanning frame (R1, R2, R3, R4, R5, R6) with the largest y-extension (6) as the leading frame (R4), (iii) defining as subsequent frames (R3, R5) those which are located with their y-extension within a section (10) of the scanning bed which is spanned in the y-direction by the smallest and the largest extension value of the y-extension of the leading frame, (iv) creating an image processing dataset from said section, its leading frame and its subsequent frames, (v) registering said image processing dataset in a list of image processing datasets, (vi) performing steps (ii) to (v), without taking into account the scanning frames already existing in an image processing dataset, until all the scanning frames measured in step (i) are included in an image processing dataset, (vii) capturing image data by scanning the sections of the image processing datasets registered in the list, (viii) cropping the image data of originals from the captured image data along the scanning frame, and (ix) storing the cropped image data of the originals.

An image forming system may comprises an image forming unit, a sensor, and a controller. The controller configured to control the sensor based on measurement modes including a first measurement mode and a second measurement mode. A sampling number of an image by the sensor while the sensor moves in the direction orthogonal to the conveying direction in the first measurement mode is less than a sampling number of an image by the sensor while the sensor moves in the direction orthogonal to the conveying direction in the second measurement mode.

An image reading device, an image forming apparatus, and a feed tray. The image reading device is provided with a light source that irradiates a sheet with light, and the light source is a sterilizing-light emitting light source that irradiates the sheet with light to sterilize the sheet. The image forming apparatus includes the image reading device, a housing including an image forming device that forms an image on a sheet, and a sterilizing-light emitting light source disposed in a sheet conveyance path in the housing. The feed tray for containing a plurality of sheets, the feed tray includes a sterilizing-light emitting light source.

An image reading apparatus executes a calibration processing of calibrating a reading unit when a medium detection sensor detects that a medium is present. The image reading apparatus executes the calibration processing each time a first time-period elapses in a state where the medium detection sensor detects that the medium is present after the calibration processing. When a start instruction of reading the medium is received, the image reading apparatus starts transport of the medium and causes the reading unit to read the medium on a basis of calibration information of a last calibration processing.

Images in a first drawing region on a first reading surface and in a second drawing region on a second reading surface of a both-surface targeted document satisfy both-surface targeted conditions. Images in a first drawing region on a first reading surface and in a second drawing region on a second reading surface of a non-target document satisfy non-target conditions. A processor causes a printing apparatus to execute both-surface pattern print processing for the both-surface targeted document. The processor causes the printing apparatus to execute idle feed processing for the non-target document. The both-surface pattern print processing includes processing in which a first pattern image is formed on the second reading surface and processing in which a second pattern image is formed in a region including the first drawing region on the first reading surface.

Provided is an image forming system in which an image forming apparatus is connected to a post-processing apparatus having a function of trimming. The image forming system includes: a repeat setting part that determines either: a setting of a scan size of a scan image per one printed reproduction of the scan image, the one printed reproduction being to be laid out by imposition of the scan image; or a setting of the imposition of the scan image according to the scan size of the scan image; a trimming setting part that determines either: a setting of a card size of cards to be obtained by trimming a recording medium; or a setting of a trimming area for the cards; and a coordination part that coordinates the repeat setting part and the trimming setting part.
