An image forming apparatus includes a detection unit configured to detect an object, a reception unit configured to receive an operation of a user, and a shifting unit configured to shift, if the detection unit detects an object, a power state of the image forming apparatus from a first power state to a second power state different from the first power state, and shift, if the reception unit receives an operation of a user, the power state of the image forming apparatus from the second power state to the first power state.

An information processing apparatus and method is provided and controls execution of learning processing thereon. Learning data are generated in which readings of a human presence sensor serve as input values, information on receiving or not receiving any operation from an operation panel serves as success/failure flags. The success/failure flag is generated from an assessment result of a current resumption assessment model and the information on receiving or not receiving an operation, and is provided to the learning data. Accordingly, learning processing is performed using the success/failure flags provided in the learning data, thereby efficiently implementing learning.

Techniques of power management in devices having multi-processor core are described herein. In an example, an ethernet controller of a device comprises a MAC layer module which receives a data packet through a physical network. A multi-processor core coupled to the ethernet controller comprises a first and a second processor. The first and second processor comprise a first driver and a second driver, respectively. The second driver determines that the first processor has entered a power saving mode, receives the data packets directed towards the multi-processor core from the MAC layer module and stores the data packet in a data structure. The econd driver invokes the first driver based on a determination that the data packet is to be handled by the first processor and provides an address of the data structure storing the data packet to the first driver, the data structure being accessible to the first driver.

An information processing apparatus includes two storage devices, a semiconductor storage device and a magnetic storage device, and controls which of the storage devices is to provide a swap area corresponding to a power saving mode set in accordance with a user input.

An image forming apparatus includes an image forming portion, a casing, an image reading portion, a first controller substrate provided on one of side surfaces of the casing, a second controller substrate provided on the side surface, wherein a component mounting surface of the second controller substrate is in a non-overlapping position with a component mounting surface of the first controller substrate, an electric wire configured to connect the first controller portion and the image reading portion, and a shielding member fixed to the casing so as to be provided between the electric wire and the second controller substrate and configured to shield electromagnetic radiation from the second controller substrate toward the electric wire.

An image forming apparatus includes: an operation panel having an operation surface for accepting operations from a user; a photovoltaic module for generating electric power upon reception of light; and a support member for supporting the photovoltaic module in such a way that the photovoltaic module is placed above the operation surface of the operation panel. The photovoltaic module is supported so as to be pivotable relative to the support member.

An apparatus and method for saving power in an office machine having a display panel are provided. The method comprises setting the apparatus in an operation standby mode, detecting whether an error exists in the apparatus and turning on the display panel to display the error thereon when the error is detected. Furthermore, the apparatus keeps the display panel in an off state when the error is not detected. Thus, the exemplary embodiments of the present invention provide a power saving method of an office machine which prevents unnecessary power consumption during an operation of an office machine having a display panel.

The switching part includes a head portion on which a pushing operation is received and a cover portion covering the opening of the exterior cover around the head portion.
