Provided is an image reading system capable of improving the image quality of a document in which text and images are mixed in the same page. A camera captures a document in page units to obtain captured image data. A document reading unit is an image scanner having a higher resolution than the camera. An area classifying unit classifies the captured image data captured by the camera into areas for each content. An area selecting unit selects, for each classified area, whether to output captured image data based on the area classification and the state of the captured image data. An image processing unit processes the captured image data or the scanned image data for each area, and outputs or deletes the data as area data. The document output unit collects the processed area data, reconstructs the data into document data, and outputs the document data.

A method for scanning a document a single time on a multi-function device (MFD) to generate a scanned image in different resolutions is disclosed. For example, the method is executed by a processor of the MFD and includes receiving the document, causing a scanner to scan the document, generating a plurality of scanned documents, wherein each one of the plurality of scanned documents have different resolutions, and outputting the plurality of scanned documents.

Methods and apparatuses receive, into a user interface, an instruction to combine multiple scanned pages into one or more n-up sheets. In response to receiving the instruction to combine multiple scanned pages, a resolution field is output from the user interface. A user-set resolution for the scanned pages on the n-up sheets is received into the resolution field. With this, the scanned pages are scanned at the user-set resolution using a scanner. A processor is used to combine the scanned pages together into the n-up sheets at the user-set resolution of the scanned pages resolution, and the processor outputs the n-up sheets in an electronic file.

An example image scanning apparatus includes a lighting unit to irradiate light onto a manuscript using an LED light source, a scan unit to generate a scan image by scanning image information of manuscript using light reflected by the manuscript, and a processor to control the lighting unit to irradiate light on each unit pixel by a predetermined duty during a movement process of the manuscript in a sub-scan direction.

An image forming apparatus includes a printing device, an output value converting unit, and a controller. The output value converting unit is configured to (a) change pixel values of pixels alternatively determined in a primary scanning direction and a secondary scanning direction so as to delete a dot on the pixels in a solid part in a target image and (b) change pixel values of pixels that are alternatively not determined in the primary scanning direction and the secondary scanning direction so as to gain a dot size of the pixels in the solid part. The controller is configured to control the printing device so as to print the solid part with dot sizes corresponding to the pixel values.

An image reading device includes a first image reading portion, a cooling portion, a second image reading portion, and a notification processing portion. The first image reading portion reads an image of a document sheet at a first reading position. The cooling portion cools the document sheet at a cooling position downstream in a feeding direction of the document sheet with respect to the first reading position. The second image reading portion reads an image of the document sheet at a second reading position downstream in the feeding direction with respect to the cooling position. In a case where a difference image different from a first image read by the first image reading portion, the difference image being included in a second image read by the second image reading portion has been detected, the notification processing portion provides a notification that the difference image has been detected.
