The second reading unit includes a rectangular transparent member, an optical reading unit, a housing, a first and a second contact portions, a first and a second pressing members, and a protruding portion. The first and the second contact portions are protruding from a facing surface of the housing. The protruding portion, when viewed from an upstream side in a conveyance direction of a recording material passing through a conveyance path between the second reading unit and the second guide portion, is disposed between the first contact portion and the second contact portion and protruding from the facing surface of the housing, a protruding amount of the protruding portion being smaller than protruding amounts of the first and the second contact portions.

Example media scanning assemblies are disclosed. In an example, the media scanning assembly includes a media feeder assembly including an output tray, an input tray disposed vertically lower than the output tray, and a first scanning device. In addition, the media scanning assembly includes a flatbed scanning assembly coupled to the media scanning assembly. The flatbed scanning assembly includes a transparent platen and a second scanning device to move relative to the platen. The media feeder assembly includes a media path extending from the input tray, across a portion of the platen, to the output tray, and the media feeder assembly is to advance media along the media path from the input tray to the output tray so that the first scanning device is to scan a first side of the media and the second scanning device is to scan a second side of the media through the platen.

An image reading apparatus is provided, including a platen glass having opposed upper and lower surfaces, a support frame supporting a peripheral portion of the platen glass, a reading device reciprocable in a first direction and disposed on an inner side of the support frame so as to be nearer to the lower surface than to the upper surface, a guide formed on an inner bottom surface on the inner side of the support frame and extending in the first direction so as to guide reciprocation of the reading device, a controller that controls operations of the reading device, a harness connecting the reading device and the controller to each other, and a harness accommodating portion accommodating the harness and constituted by a groove having a recessed shape, extending in the first direction, and formed at the inner bottom surface at a position located in front of the guide.

An image reading apparatus includes: a platen glass having upper and lower surfaces; a support frame supporting a peripheral portion of the platen glass; a reading device reciprocable in a first direction and disposed on an inner side of the support frame so as to be nearer to the lower surface than to the upper surface; a guide formed on an inner bottom surface on the inner side of the support frame and extending in the first direction so as to guide reciprocation of the reading device; a controller that controls operations of the reading device; a harness connecting the reading device and the controller to each other; and a harness accommodating portion accommodating the harness, constituted by a groove having a recessed shape, extending in the first direction, and formed at the inner bottom surface at a position located in front of the guide.

Provided is a manufacturing method of a sheet-through image reading apparatus, including a first step of preparing a contact glass, a second step of bonding, after the first step, a heat-resistant and insulative sheet-shaped material to a predetermined position on a major surface of the contact glass, as a transport guide member, a third step of executing plasma processing on the major surface of the contact glass after the second step, a fourth step of executing a fluorine coating on the major surface of the contact glass after the third step, a fifth step of sintering the contact glass after the fourth step, and a sixth step of fixing the contact glass to a casing of the image reading apparatus, after the fifth step.

An image reading apparatus, including: a document transport portion including a transport mechanism; a first guide which is provided in the document transport portion and guides a document transported in a transport direction; a second guide arranged on a downstream side; and an image reading portion which includes a reading unit provided with the second guide and reads, at a reading position, an image of a document having passed through a transport path formed by the first guide and the second guide, wherein the transport path includes a first and a second transport region that differ from each other in an intersecting direction, and a document is guided from the first guide to the reading position in the first transport region and guided in an order of the first guide, the second guide, and the reading position in the second transport region.

An image reading device includes a transport section that transports a recording medium along a transport path, an image reading section that is provided on one side of the transport path and reads an image formed on the recording medium transported through the transport path, a rotary body that is rotatably provided and is provided on a side opposite to an installation side of the image reading section across the transport path, and a protruding portion that is provided at least at one end portion out of one end portion and the other end portion of the rotary body in an axial direction and protrudes from the rotary body toward the image reading section side.

An image reading device includes a reading unit that includes a transparent member, a sensor for reading an image on a sheet conveyed by a conveyance roller via the transparent member, a case accommodating the sensor, and a first contact portion and a second contact portion located at the case. The reading unit is movable to each of a first position where the image on the sheet is read by the sensor and a second position where the transparent member is exposed to an outside and the first and second contact portions contact the conveyance unit. When the transparent member is pressed in a state where the reading unit is located at the second position, a backup portion contacts the other of the case and the conveyance unit so that the conveyance unit supports the case.
