An ASIC includes: a communication circuit that communicates with a control circuit; a multi-level, fixed-length compression circuit that performs fixed-length compression on scanner-generated image data to output multi-level, fixed-length compressed image data; a tone processing circuit that performs tone processing on the scanner-generated image data to output reduced-level image data; a first selection circuit that selects one of the multi-level, fixed-length compressed image data and the reduced-level image data, as first selected image data to be transmitted by the communication circuit to the control circuit; a multi-level, fixed-length decompression circuit that performs fixed-length decompression on image data received by the communication circuit from the control circuit, to output fixed-length decompressed image data; and a second selection circuit that selects one of the fixed-length decompressed image data and the image data received by the communication circuit, as second selected image data to be output to the plotter.

A facsimile transmission system includes circuitry to receive, from a user, a request for facsimile transmission of a document, and determine which one of first facsimile transmission and second facsimile transmission is to be performed, based on one of an attribute of the user, an attribute of a destination of the facsimile transmission, and an attribute of the document. The first facsimile transmission is transmitting the document by an image forming apparatus, and the second facsimile transmission is transmitting the document by a facsimile server. The circuitry further instructs to perform the one of the first facsimile transmission and the second facsimile transmission.

A facsimile transmission system includes circuitry to receive, from a user, a request for facsimile transmission of a document, and determine which one of first facsimile transmission and second facsimile transmission is to be performed, based on one of an attribute of the user, an attribute of a destination of the facsimile transmission, and an attribute of the document. The first facsimile transmission is transmitting the document by an image forming apparatus, and the second facsimile transmission is transmitting the document by a facsimile server. A display control apparatus includes a display control unit that controls display of a display unit. A communication unit starts wireless communication with a printing apparatus according to a decrease in distance between the display control apparatus and the printing apparatus. A display switching unit performs a predetermined display related to printing in a case where the communication unit starts communication with the printing apparatus while a content to be printed is displayed on the display unit. The display control unit is configured to not perform the predetermined display in a case where the communication unit starts communication with the printing apparatus while a content not to be printed is displayed on the display unit.

An apparatus includes an association unit and a transmission controller. The association unit associates an image among one or more images with at least one piece of transmission information among one or more pieces of transmission information on a display in accordance with a user operation. The one or more pieces of transmission information are information on the one or more images and each include a transmission method and a transmission destination. The transmission controller causes transmission of the image in accordance with the at least one piece of transmission information associated with the image.
