Methods and apparatus for wireless device attachment in a managed network architecture

Methods and apparatus for enhancing connectivity for a device backhauled by a wireline communication network. In one embodiment, the device comprises a small-cell or other wireless base station that is backhauled by a DOCSIS system within a managed HFC network, and the method and apparatus enable enhanced connection of user devices serviced by the base station (such as 3GPP UE or CBRS FWA) to a core entity for e.g., authentication and packet session establishment. In one implementation, enhanced Cable Termination System (CMTS) and cable modem (CM) devices coordinate to allocate prioritized service flows to traffic sourced from the base station. These service flows can selectively bypass extant DOCSIS protocols which might otherwise increase connection latency (including connection failure) such as AQM (active queue management) and packet dropping algorithms. In some variants, upstream service flow data rates can also be enhanced through temporary utilization of higher-order modulation and/or coding schemes.

Common-mode filtering for high-speed cable interface

A radiofrequency (RF) wireline communications system includes an interference filter for filtering interference noise at a cable interface that couples a cable of the system to functional circuitry. The interference filter includes a first termination resistance element coupled between a first cable conductor and a system ground, and a first termination reactance element coupled to the first termination resistance element. The first termination reactance element has a first termination reactance value selected to direct signals on the first cable conductor, having predetermined frequency characteristics, away from the system ground, and the first termination resistance element has a first termination resistance value selected as a pull-down resistance for interference signals having other than the predetermined frequency characteristics, that are not directed by the first termination reactance element away from the system ground, to cause the interference signals, having other than the predetermined frequency characteristics, to propagate to the system ground.

Premises apparatus and methods for aggregated high-capacity data services

Premises apparatus and methods for providing aggregated high-bandwidth, low-latency data service over a content delivery network including existing wireline infrastructure. In one embodiment, a network architecture having service delivery over at least portions of extant hybrid fiber coax (HFC) infrastructure is disclosed, which includes standards-compliant ultra-low latency and high data rate services (e.g., 3GPP and IEEE Std. 802.11 services) via a common service provider. In one variant, an expanded frequency band (e.g., 1.6 GHz in total bandwidth) is used over the coaxial portions of the HFC infrastructure, which is allocated to two or more sub-bands. Premises apparatus are used to support multi-service integration (e.g., aggregation of mobile wireless, premises, and other services), as well as incipient IoT applications and technologies.

Method and apparatus for secure transfer and playback of multimedia content
11700359 · 2023-07-11 · ·

A method and apparatus for secure transfer and playback of multimedia content enables the secure transfer of multimedia content from a digital video recorder (DVR) to a personal computer (PC) and further to a handheld device. A DVR determines which devices on a Local Area Network (LAN) are authorized to share and/or retrieve content from the DVR. The DVR receives a connection request from a PC on the LAN, authorizes the connection request and establishes a secure connection between the DVR and the PC. Once the secure connection is established, the DVR receives a request for multimedia content from the PC, prepares the multimedia content for transfer and transfers the multimedia content to the PC.

Retaining legacy STB support with HFC plant migration to high split
11589092 · 2023-02-21 · ·

Propagating a downstream (DS) Out-of-Band (OOB) signal at a frequency receivable by a set of legacy set-top boxes (STBs) while supporting enhanced upstream peak data rates. At an input of an amplifier of a physical device, a portion of the DS-OOB signal is tapped to create a tapped DS-OOB signal, which comprises both the DS-OOB signal and all other downstream signals and channels sent from a head-end to a set of customer premises equipment (CPE) via the physical device. The tapped DS-OOB signal is introduced to a band-pass filter that passes the DS-OOB signal and attenuates all other radio frequency (RF) signals to create a filtered DS-OOB signal. The filtered DS-OOB signal is amplified and coupled to a low-pass side of a high-split diplex filter to propagate onto a transmission medium coupled to the CPE. The physical device may be a high-split RF amplifier or a high-split node.

Signal amplifiers that support MoCA communications at both active and passive output ports

RF signal amplifiers are provided that include an RF input port and a power divider network having a plurality of active output ports. An active communications path connects the RF input port to the power divider network. The active communications path includes at least one power amplifier. The RF signal amplifier also includes a passive output port and a passive communications path connecting the RF input port to the passive output port. An electrical connection with at least one circuit unit connects the active communications path and the passive communications path so that MoCA signals may flow between the active communications path and the passive communications path, but the at least one circuit unit preventing upstream and downstream frequency bands of a service provider from passing along the electrical connection. In various embodiments, the at least one circuit unit may be selected from one or more diplexers and one or more filters.

Self interference cancellation for high performance transceivers

Approaches provide for processing a communications signal, such as a wideband communications signal. For example, a communications signal can be received at an access device, such as a cable modem or a wireless transceiver/radio. The access device can include components operable to process the communications signal to enable access to, for example, video, data, voice, high-speed Internet services. At least some of the components include an echo cancellation component among other components to cancel interference (e.g., ACI, ALI). For example, the echo cancellation component can use trained filters and samples of the upstream signal, echoed samples of the transmitted signal, feedback signals of the echoed signal, etc., to estimate one or more types of interference. Thereafter, the estimated interference can be used to cancel interference at the access device.
