A transverse field induction heating apparatus for the inductive heating of sheet metal in a rolling mill includes an upper inductor and a lower inductor. The upper inductor includes two adjacently positioned upper partial induction loops which are series-connected and fed an electrical current in opposite directions. The lower inductor includes two adjacently positioned lower partial induction loops which are series-connected and fed an electrical current in opposite directions. The electrical current in both partial induction loops is oriented in an opposing direction. Each of the upper and lower partial induction loop is structured to be moved individually perpendicular to a sheet axis and includes a rounded head positioned adjacent to each other such that the rounded head is shaped as a hammer head.

METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR HEATING AND ROLL FORMING A PRODUCT

Systems and methods are described for roll-forming metal substrates. The metal substrates are subjected to induction heating during the roll-forming process by exposure to time-varying magnetic fields, such as by exposure to a rotating permanent magnet, or exposure to laser radiation from a laser source. Heating of the metal substrates allows improved formability or plasticity of the substrate in order to reduce or eliminate damage to the substrate during roll-forming to low bending radius to thickness ratios. Heating of the high-strength metal substrates can also function to temper the substrates and/or improve surface corrosion resistance and form high-strength end products with desirable properties.

The present invention intends to run one induction heating apparatus using a three-phase AC power supply without use of a Scott connection transformer while preventing an occurrence of a phase where no current flows. An induction heating system uses the three-phase AC power supply to run the induction heating apparatus including an induction heating coil, and has an intermediate apparatus including a coil that is wound on an iron core with an even number of turns, forming a closed magnetic circuit. Additionally, a winding start point of the induction heating coil is connected to the U phase of the three-phase AC power supply and a winding end point of the same is connected to a midpoint of the intermediate coil. The winding start point and end point of the intermediate coil are connected to the V and W phases of the three-phase AC power supply, respectively.
