Spacing-assured electric field shield for gas discharge tube of motor control
A spacing-assured gas discharge tube assembly is installed on a printed circuit board, which may be part of a motor controller. The discharge tube assembly includes a tube body and an electrostatic spacing shield disposed at least partially around the tube body. The shield is configured to prevent close physical proximity of adjacent structures having electrostatic fields that may alter the breakdown voltage of the tube body.
Spark gap electrostatic discharge (ESD) protection for memory cards
To protect memory cards, such as SD type cards, and similar devices from Electrostatic Discharge (ESD), the input pads of the device include points along their edges that are aligned with correspond points on a conductive frame structure mounted adjacent the input pad to form a spark gap. The input pads are connected to a memory controller or other ASIC over signal lines that include a diode located between the input pad and the ASIC and a resistance located between the input pad and the diode. The resistance and diode are selected such that an ESD event at an input pad triggers a discharge across the spark gap before it is transmitted on to the ASIC, while also allowing a high data rate for signals along the signal line.
Apparatus with charge dissipation
An electrical apparatus has an external conductive housing. A printed circuit board is provided (separate to a main circuit board of the apparatus) within a PCB housing. The printed circuit board is mechanically and electrically connected to the external housing and has an arc gap between a first contact which connects electrically to the external housing and a second contact which connects electrically to a power supply terminal. Thus, a dedicated circuit is used to perform a discharge function so that the housing and main circuit board do not need to be redesigned.
ESD protection device
An ESD protection device includes: a first insulating layer (2a); a second insulating layer (2b) stacked on the first insulating layer (2a); a first via conductor (6a) extending through the first insulating layer (2a) in a thickness direction; a discharge gap portion (10) provided so as to be in contact with the first via conductor (6a), between the first insulating layer (2a) and the second insulating layer (2b); a first wiring line (7a) that is arranged on a surface of the first insulating layer (2a) opposite to the discharge gap portion (10) and that is electrically connected to the first via conductor (6a); and a second wiring line (7b) that is arranged on one surface of the second insulating layer (2b) and that includes a portion facing the first via conductor (6a) with at least the discharge gap portion (10) interposed therebetween.
