Wood-based solar thermal devices, and methods for fabrication and use thereof
Solar thermal devices are formed from a block of wood, where the natural cell lumens of the wood form an interconnected network that transports fluid or material therein. The block of wood can be modified to increase absorption of solar radiation. Combining the solar absorption effects with the natural transport network can be used for various applications. In some embodiments, heating of the modified block of wood by insolation can be used to evaporate a fluid, for example, evaporating water for extraction, distillation, or desalination. In other embodiments, heating of the modified block of wood by insolation can be used to change transport properties of a material to allow it to be transported in the interconnected network, for example, heating crude oil to adsorb the oil within the block of wood.
Building frame and method for adjusting the temperature in a building
A building envelope, in particular a wall, a floor, or a roof of a building with at least two shells spaced some distance apart from one another, which encloses an intermediate space, said space being essentially empty with the exception of weight-bearing and/or construction-engineering elements or being filled at least in sections with porous, open-celled material and sealed from the interior and exterior of the building, wherein controllable sealing means are provided for sealing the intermediate space from the interior and exterior and optionally separated building envelope sections from one other.

HIGH FLUX THERMAL RECEIVER AND METHOD OF USE
A thermal receiver, such as a solar flux thermal receiver, is disclosed comprising a modular arrangement of arrayed microchannels or micropins to heat a working fluid by heat transfer. Disclosed solar receivers provide a much higher solar flux and consequently a significant reduction in thermal losses, size, and cost, relative to known receivers. Unit cell receivers can be numbered up and combined in parallel to form modules, and modules combined to form full scale receivers.
BRANCHED POLYSILOXANES AND METHODS FOR THEIR PREPARATION AND USE AS HEAT TRANSFER FLUIDS
A branched polysiloxane compound and methods for its preparation are disclosed. The branched polysiloxane compound may be used as a heat transfer fluid.
Solar air heater
A method, system, apparatus, and/or device for preheating air for a rooftop air handling unit (RTU). The method, system, apparatus, and/or device may include a barrier system configured to surround the RTU. The barrier system may include a structure to provide a frame for the barrier system, a first barrier configured to connect to a first side of the structure, and a collector configured to connect to a second side of the structure. The method, system, apparatus, and/or device may include a duct configured to connect between the collector and a chamber. The method, system, apparatus, and/or device may include a chamber configured to connect to an air intake hood of the RTU. The chamber may include a first opening to receive air stored in the cavity, a second opening to receive external air, and a diverter configured to switch between a first position and a second position.
BASE TROUGH FOR A THERMAL MODULE, THERMAL MODULE COMPRISING SUCH BASE TROUGH, A SYSTEM FOR EXTRACTING THERMAL ENERGY AND THE USE OF SUCH BASE TROUGH FOR EXTRACTING THERMAL ENERGY FROM SUNLIGHT
The invention relates to a base trough (4) for a thermal module (1), thermal module (1) comprising such base trough (4), a system for extracting thermal energy and the use of such base trough (4) for extracting thermal energy from sunlight.
System for storing and retrieving thermal energy
The present invention relates to devices and systems for collecting and storage of solar energy, wherein the system for storing and retrieving captured temperature based energy comprising: one or more thermal collectors (5, 60), an energy carrier (29), a piping system (3, 7, 34, 35, 36), pumping device for controlling the flow of the energy carrier (29), and one or more ground thermal storage systems (30).
Hot water tank
A hot water tank including: a shell enclosing a chamber containing a heat exchange liquid, the shell including a base, side wall and lid; a cold water inlet connected to a first end of a heat exchanger, and a hot water outlet connected to a second end of the heat exchanger, wherein the heat exchanger is located in an upper portion of the chamber; a primary heating element connected to a power source for heating the heat exchange liquid, the primary heating element being located in a lower portion of the chamber.
Double point-focusing solar energy collection apparatus
A double point focusing solar energy collection apparatus of the present invention includes a heat collector, a secondary concentrator, and a bracket. The heat collector includes a primary concentrator and a heat collection tube, in which the primary concentrator has a focus point. The secondary concentrator has a focus point. The bracket supports the primary concentrator, the heat collection tube, and the secondary concentrator. The heat collection tube is located between the primary concentrator and the secondary concentrator and located on the focus points of the secondary concentrator and the primary concentrator. By adding the secondary concentrator, which is a rotating paraboloid reflector or circular Fresnel reflector, it can achieve low light loss and high heat collection efficiency, and erosion of the heat collection tube by sand, rain, and snow can be effectively prevented, thereby extending the lifetime of the heat collection tube effectively.
