Separation and purification coupled process with high helium yield and diversified products

A separation and purification coupled process with a high helium yield and diversified products is provided. The process is as follows. Firstly, a low-concentration helium-containing gas after being pressurized and pre-treated enters a two-stage and two-section membrane separation unit to produce a helium product with a medium concentration by concentrating stage by stage through the membrane separation unit. A part of the helium with medium concentration enters an adsorption unit for further concentration to produce a helium product above grade A.

Hydrogen purification devices

Hydrogen purification devices and their components are disclosed. In some embodiments, the devices may include at least one foil-microscreen assembly disposed between and secured to first and second end frames. The at least one foil-microscreen assembly may include at least one hydrogen-selective membrane and at least one microscreen structure including a non-porous planar sheet having a plurality of apertures forming a plurality of fluid passages. The planar sheet may include generally opposed planar surfaces configured to provide support to the permeate side. The plurality of fluid passages may extend between the opposed surfaces. The at least one hydrogen-selective membrane may be metallurgically bonded to the at least one microscreen structure. In some embodiments, the devices may include a permeate frame having at least one membrane support structure that spans at least a substantial portion of an open region and that is configured to support at least one foil-microscreen assembly.

IMPROVEMENTS RELATING TO GAS SEPARATION

A method of purifying gaseous mixtures, for example ternary or quaternary gaseous mixtures, using a sorbent media comprising two or more sorbent materials. The method involves obtaining a target gas from a gaseous composition comprising the target gas, a first gas and a second gas, and optionally further gases by contacting the gaseous composition with the sorbent media to remove at least some of the first gas and at least some of the second gas from the gaseous composition. The sorbent media comprises at least a first sorbent material and a second sorbent material; wherein the first sorbent material has a higher adsorption selectivity for the first gas than for the target gas; and wherein the second sorbent material has a higher adsorption selectivity for the second gas than for target gas. The method may be particularly useful for the separation of pure ethylene, methane or propylene from such gaseous mixtures. A sorbent media and an apparatus for obtaining a target gas from such a gaseous composition are also disclosed.

A processing facility is provided that includes a feedstock separation system configured to separate a feed stream into a lights stream and a heavies stream, a hydrogen production system configured to produce hydrogen and carbon dioxide from the lights stream, and a carbon dioxide conversion system configured to produce synthetic hydrocarbons or the carbon dioxide. The processing facility also includes a hydroprocessing system configured to process the heavies stream, and a hydroprocessor separation system configured to separate a hydroprocessing system effluent into a separator tops stream and a separator bottoms stream, wherein the separator bottoms stream is fed to the hydrogen production system.

The present invention comprises a one-stage membrane process for electrochemical separation of hydrogen from natural gas streams in a pipeline (1) having a positive pressure in the range from 50 mbar to 100 bar, having the following process steps: (i) a gas substream (2) is drawn off from the natural gas stream in a pipeline (1) without any change in the gas composition, where the mass flow rate of the gas substream is adjusted depending on the hydrogen content in the natural gas stream (1) such that a depletion level of 0.65 to 0.975 is established in the case of a hydrogen concentration of <10% by volume and a depletion level of 0.55 to 0.925 in the case of a hydrogen concentration of >10% by weight, where the depletion level is defined as the quotient of the desired molar H2 product stream (6) and the molar H2 reactant flow rate in the gas substream at the inlet of the membrane unit (2), (ii) this gas substream (2) is compressed (3) upstream of a membrane unit (5), (iii) this gas substream is heated to 100 to 250° C. either upstream of the membrane unit or in the membrane unit, and this gas substream is supplied with water (4) upstream of the membrane unit and/or on the permeate side of the membrane unit (4a), such that the water loading is between 0.005 and 0.2 mol of water/mol of natural gas, (iv) this gas substream is sent to an electrochemical membrane unit in which hydrogen is separated off as permeate (6a) at a temperature of 100 to 250° C., (v) the retentate (8) from the membrane unit is recycled into the natural gas stream, sent to a chemical utilization and/or used as fuel.

The present invention further comprises a method of ascertaining the optimized gas substream which is drawn off from a pipeline that conducts natural gas and hydrogen in order to separate hydrogen from this gas substream in an electrochemical membrane unit.

METHOD AND ARRANGEMENT FOR RECOVERING HELIUM

A method for recovering helium from a feed gas mixture comprising helium, carbon dioxide and at least one of methane and nitrogen, and wherein at least a part of the feed gas mixture is subjected to a separation sequence including a membrane-based separation and an adsorption-based separation forming a helium product, wherein the the membrane based separation is performed using a first membrane separation step and a second membrane separation step, the membrane based separation and the separation sequence includes no further membrane separation steps, the adsorption based separation is performed using a pressure swing adsorption step, at least a part of the feed gas mixture is subjected to the first membrane separation step forming a first retentate and a first permeate. A corresponding arrangement is also provided.

A method of obtaining helium from a helium-containing feed gas. Helium-containing feed gas is fed to a prepurifying unit that uses a pressure swing adsorption process to remove undesirable components from the helium-containing feed gas and obtain a prepurified feed gas. The prepurified feed gas is fed to a membrane unit connected downstream of the prepurifying unit and that has at least one membrane more readily permeable to helium than to at least one further component present in the prepurified feed gas. A pressurized low-helium retentate stream that has not passed through the membrane is fed to the prepurifying unit. The pressurized low-helium retentate is used to displace helium-rich gas from an adsorber that is to be regenerated into an already regenerated adsorber.
