An embodiment provides a method for measuring total chlorine in a solution, including: preparing a thiocarbamate indicator; introducing the thiocarbamate indicator to a solution, wherein the solution contains an amount of monochloramine; adding an additive to the solution, wherein the additive accelerates the reaction rate between the thiocarbamate indicator and monochloramine and causes a change in fluorescence of the solution; and measuring the amount of monochloramine in the solution by measuring an intensity of the fluorescence. Other aspects are described and claimed.
Method and device for the determination of film forming amines in a liquid
A photometric method for determination of a concentration of a film forming amine in a liquid, including providing a buffer solution of a weak acid having a pKa≥4.5 and a strong acid having a pKa≤1; diluting an aliquot of the buffer solution with water, and determining the pH of the diluted buffer solution; adding reagent to the diluted buffer solution and measuring an initial absorbance of the diluted buffer/reagent solution; preparing a sample solution by adding liquid containing the film forming amine to an aliquot of the buffer solution and measuring the pH of the sample solution; adjusting the pH of the sample solution to match the pH of the diluted buffer solution by adding strong acid; and adding the reagent to the pH adjusted sample solution to form a colored complex, and measuring the absorbance of the resulting solution in a photometer.

Methods and kits for the derivatization of a biogenic amine
A method for the in situ derivatization of at least one biogenic amine, precursor, or metabolite thereof in an isolated aqueous sample includes the steps of: (i) contacting the sample with a propionic anhydride/acetonitrile solution in the presence of a phosphate buffer having a pH in the range of 7.0 to 9.0 and allowing the conversion of amine and/or hydroxyl moieties of the biogenic amine, precursor, or metabolite thereof to form a propionyl derivative of the biogenic amine; followed by (ii) adding to the reaction mixture obtained in step (i) a carbodiimide compound and an electrophilic amine-containing compound, and allowing the carbodiimide-mediated derivatization of carboxylic acid moieties of the biogenic amine, precursor, or metabolite thereof.
Anise flavored medication
An anise flavored liquid medication. The liquid medication contains phenylephrine and an anethole analog that is substantially free of aldehyde groups. In one example, the anethole analog can be 1-methoxy-4-n-propylbenzene.
Method for detecting organic and inorganic explosives
Methods, devices, and systems are disclosed for releasing a sample from a carrier medium. A method of releasing a sample from a carrier medium comprises treating a sample on a carrier medium with a first organic reagent, wherein when the sample contains at least one inorganic salt, the first organic reagent binds to a cation of the inorganic salt to produce both a first volatile compound and an isolated anion of the inorganic salt; treating the sample on the carrier medium with a second organic reagent, wherein the second organic reagent reacts with the isolated anion to produce a second volatile compound; and releasing the treated sample from the carrier medium, wherein when the first and the second volatile compounds are produced, the releasing step releases at least one of the first and second volatile compounds from the carrier medium.
Nanofibril materials for highly sensitive and selective sensing of amines
A sensory material with high sensitivity, selectivity, and photostability has been developed for vapor probing of organic amines. The sensory material is a perylene-3,4,9,10-tetracarboxyl compound having amine binding groups and the following formula ##STR00001## where A and A′ are independently chosen from N—R1, N—R2, and O such that both A and A′ are not O, and R1 through R10 are amine binding moieties, solubility enhancing groups, or hydrogen such that at least one of R1 through R10 is an amine binding moiety. This perylene compound can be formed into well-defined nanofibers. Upon deposition onto a substrate, the entangled nanofibers form a meshlike, highly porous film, which enables expedient diffusion of gaseous analyte molecules within the film matrix, leading to a milliseconds response for vapor sensing.
