A detergent composition including (a) at least one acyl alkyl isothionate surfactant of formula (I):

##STR00001## wherein R.sup.1 represents an optionally substituted C.sub.4-C.sub.36 hydrocarbyl group; each of R.sup.2, R.sup.3, R.sup.4 and R.sup.5 independently represents hydrogen or a C.sub.1-C.sub.4 alkyl group and wherein at least one of R.sup.2, R.sup.3, R.sup.4 and R.sup.5 is not hydrogen; and M.sup.+ represents a cation; and (b) at least one hydrocarbyl saccharide compound.

EFFERVESCENT CLEANSING POWDER COMPOSITION

The present invention is directed to an effervescent cleansing powder composition that comprises an effervescent system, a solid surfactant system, and a stabilizing system comprising apolysaccharide builder and a salt of carboxylic acid, and optionally a viscosity builder. The cleansing powder composition is mild during use, generates consumer-desirable lathering characteristics, and remains free-flowing under high humidity and/or temperature conditions.

BAR COMPOSITION HAVING ENHANCED ANTIMICROBIAL ACTIVITY

The present invention is directed to a mild bar composition with enhanced antimicrobial activity. The bar composition of the present invention is mild and unexpectedly yields superior antimicrobial activity when used in cleansing applications. The bar composition comprises an anionic surfactant and an acid, and is formulated, when lathered, to generate a wash slurry having a pH from 2.9 to 5.2.

A method of preparing a component of a personal care bar, the method comprising: (a) providing a composition comprising an isethionate surfactant at a temperature of at least 20 C.; (b) combining the composition comprising the isethionate surfactant with a synthetic 5 wax and optional further components at a temperature of at least 120 C.; and (c) cooling the mixture obtained in step (b).
