An injection device for an internal combustion engine is described, which has a first fuel injector for injecting fuel having a first fuel composition based on ethanol, and a separate second fuel injector for injecting fuel having a second fuel composition, which differs from the first fuel composition, the injection device having a heating device for preheating exclusively the fuel having the first fuel composition and injected by way of the first fuel injector.

MULTI-PHYSICS FLUID ATOMIZER AND METHODS

A fluid mixing device that includes a housing having a fuel inlet and at least one primary orifice positioned at the inlet, wherein the at least one orifice configured to disperse a stream of fuel into a plurality of fuel droplets. The plurality of fuel droplets contact a fuel impingement surface to break up the plurality of fuel droplets into a plurality of smaller secondary droplets and create a thin film of secondary droplets on the impingement surface. At least one pressurized air channel delivers an airflow into contact with the secondary droplets. The secondary droplets pass through a plurality of secondary outlet orifices to exit the housing. A size of the plurality of secondary droplets is reduced when passing out of the plurality of secondary orifices.

METHOD AND SYSTEM FOR MANUFACTURING A FAMILY OF INTAKE MANIFOLDS FOR A FAMILY OF INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINES

A system for manufacturing a family of intake manifolds includes first and second intake molds. One of the first and second intake molds includes an outlet insert. A first intake manifold includes: a plenum chamber, a plenum chamber air inlet; a first number of intake runner passages; and the first number of outlets. Each of the outlets is fluidly connected to a corresponding one of the first number of intake runner passages. The second intake manifold includes: the plenum chamber; the plenum chamber air inlet; the first number of intake runner passages; and a second number of outlets. Each of the second number of outlets is fluidly connected to a corresponding one of the first number of intake runner passages. At least one of the first number of intake runner passages is not fluidly connected to any one of the second number of outlets of the second intake manifold.

QUICK START FUEL SYSTEM FOR GASEOUS FUEL INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE AND METHOD

A gaseous fuel engine system includes a quick start fuel system having a pressurized gaseous fuel supply, a fuel feed conduit and a quick start fuel admission valve. The fuel feed conduit is coupled to an intake conduit for the engine at a downstream fuel admission location. A main fuel system is coupled to the intake conduit at an upstream fuel admission location. The quick start fuel admission valve is electrically actuated to admit a pressured gaseous fuel from the pressurized gaseous fuel supply for quick starting the gaseous fuel internal combustion engine. The quick start fuel may have a fuel composition different than a fuel composition of the main fuel.

An air-fuel mixer includes a body having an inlet, an outlet, and an air passage therebetween. One or more fuel injectors are mounted to the body and positioned to inject fuel into the air passage with little or no space between the injector nozzles and the air passage. The fuel injectors may be inclined in an air-fuel mixer outlet direction whereby they inject fuel into the air passage with momentum in a direction of the outlet. Swirl guides are provided within the air passage. The air-fuel mixer may be installed between an intake manifold and an intercooler. The air-fuel mixer provides good mixing, low resistance to air flow, reduced fuel slip, and crisp responses to throttle up and throttle down commands.

Method and system for manufacturing a family of intake manifolds for a family of internal combustion engines

A family of manifolds for a family of engines. A first and second engine respectively have a first and second number of cylinders. The second number is at least one and smaller than the first number. Each manifold has a plenum chamber and an inlet. The first and second manifolds respectively have the first and second number of outlets, each connected to one of a first number of runner passages. The first manifold is manufactured by inserting an outlet insert for forming at least one of the first number of outlets into a first or second mold, forming a first portion thereof using the first mold, forming a second portion thereof using the second mold, and connecting the portions. The second manifold is manufactured by forming a first portion thereof using the first mold, forming a second portion thereof using the second mold, and connecting the portions.

Additive-mixing fuel-injection system for internal combustion engines

A system and method for fast control of the timing of combustion in an internal combustion engine, comprising actuating a fast-acting fuel-additive supply valve to meter a variable amount of fuel additive into a fuel stream, thereby forming an additive-enhanced fuel with an additive concentration that can be dynamically adjusted as fast as each engine cycle; injecting the additive-enhanced fuel directly or indirectly into a combustion chamber or into an intake port; and combusting the additive-enhanced fuel.

SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR EQUALIZING BACKPRESSURE IN ENGINE CYLINDERS

An exhaust manifold comprises a plurality of exhaust intake conduits structured to be fluidly coupled to an engine and receive exhaust gas from a corresponding cylinder of the engine. At least one exhaust intake conduit provides a reduction in an exhaust intake conduit cross-sectional area from an inlet to an outlet. A plurality of bends are each defined by a respective one of the exhaust intake conduit outlets. An exhaust intake manifold is fluidly coupled to the exhaust intake manifold and defines an exhaust intake manifold flow axis. Each of the plurality of bends is shaped so as to define an angle of approach of exhaust gas flowing therethrough. A first angle of approach of the first bend relative to the exhaust intake manifold flow axis is smaller than a second angle of approach of an inner second bend.
