Chirped Bragg grating elements
Apparatus and methods for altering one or more spectral, spatial, or temporal characteristics of a light-emitting device are disclosed. Generally, such apparatus may include a volume Bragg grating (VBG) element that receives input light generated by a light-emitting device, conditions one or more characteristics of the input light, and causes the light-emitting device to generate light having the one or more characteristics of the conditioned light.
Semiconductor inspection and metrology system using laser pulse multiplier
A pulse multiplier includes a polarizing beam splitter, a wave plate, and a set of mirrors. The polarizing beam splitter receives an input laser pulse. The wave plate receives light from the polarized beam splitter and generates a first set of pulses and a second set of pulses. The first set of pulses has a different polarization than the second set of pulses. The polarizing beam splitter, the wave plate, and the set of mirrors create a ring cavity. The polarizing beam splitter transmits the first set of pulses as an output of the pulse multiplier and reflects the second set of pulses into the ring cavity. This pulse multiplier can inexpensively reduce the peak power per pulse while increasing the number of pulses per second with minimal total power loss.
Optical transmit system
An optical transmit system, including a direct modulator configured to generate an optical signal, an optical amplifier coupled to the direct modulator configured to amplify the optical signal output by the direct modulator, and a stimulated Brillouin scattering component coupled to the optical amplifier configured to limit optical power of the optical signal output by the optical amplifier, where a stimulated Brillouin scattering threshold of the stimulated Brillouin scattering component is equal to minimum optical power of a part, which needs to be limited, of the optical signal output by the optical amplifier, and the stimulated Brillouin scattering component reflects, using a stimulated Brillouin scattering frequency difference, a part, which has optical power higher than the minimum optical power, of the optical signal output by the optical amplifier in order to limit outputting of this part of the optical signal.
Capacitive load driving circuit
A driving circuit is a circuit selectively outputting one of a staircase wave and a square wave from an output terminal, to drive a capacitive load, and includes a first power source supplying a constant voltage VH, a first FET connected between the output terminal and the first power source, a first transformer in which an output side coil is connected to a gate of the first FET, a first input terminal connected to an input side coil of the first transformer via a capacitive element, a second power source supplying a constant voltage VL, a second FET connected between the output terminal and the second power source, a second transformer in which an output side coil is connected to a gate of the second FET, and a second input terminal connected to an input side coil of the second transformer via a capacitive element.
Multiple target LIDAR system
A light detection and ranging (LIDAR) system includes a LIDAR measurement unit, a reference measurement unit, and a phase cancellation unit. The LIDAR measurement unit estimates a time for which a laser beam travels. The reference measurement unit determines a phase of a laser source. The phase cancellation unit identifies phase noise and cancels the phase noise from the laser beam, at least partially based on the phase of the laser source and the time for which the laser beam travels. The denoised signal is used to determine the range between a laser source and a target.
Pulse Stretching Technique For Laser Bond Inspection, Laser Ultrasonic Inspection, And Laser Peening
An example laser system includes a laser, a plurality of pulse stretchers coupled together in series, a feedback module, and a lens assembly. The plurality of pulse stretchers is configured to stretch pulse widths of laser pulses provided by the laser and to output stretched laser pulses. The feedback module includes a pulse delay comparator that is configured to compare a first laser pulse of the laser pulses to a corresponding first stretched laser pulse of the stretched laser pulses. The feedback module also includes a computing device that is configured to determine, based on a result of the comparing by the pulse delay comparator, an adjustment to a pulse stretcher of the plurality of pulse stretchers, and apply the adjustment to the pulse stretcher so as to modify a shape of a second stretched laser pulse of the stretched laser pulses.
Optical illumination system
Systems and methods are provided that combine an amplitude modulation SLM with a phase modulating SLM in the same optical illumination system. The combination of the amplitude modulation SLM and the phase modulation SLM allows the optical illumination to compensate for the limitations of amplitude modulation SLM by using phase modulating SLM and conversely to compensate for the limitations of phase modulation SLM by using amplitude modulating SLM.
