An electronic component includes: a body including a dielectric layer and internal electrodes, and including first to sixth surfaces; a first external electrode including a connection portion on the third surface, and first and third band portions respectively on the first and second surfaces; a second external electrode including a connection portion on the fourth surface, and second and fourth band portions respectively on the first and second surfaces; an insulating layer disposed on the connection portions, and covering the second surface and the third and fourth band portions; plating layers respectively disposed on the first and second band portions; and first and second additional electrode layers respectively disposed between the connection portion and the third surface and between the connection portion and the fourth surface. The first or second external electrode includes copper. The first or second additional electrode layer includes one of nickel and an alloy of nickel.

The first and second internal electrode layers respectively extend to the first and second end surfaces, at least a portion of each of the first and second end surfaces are covered with a conductor layer, a portion of the conductor layer is covered with an insulating portion, at least a portion of the conductor layer and at least a portion of the insulating portion are covered with the underlayer external electrode layer when viewed from the first end surface and the second end surface, and at least a portion of the underlayer external electrode layer is covered with a plating layer.

A multilayer ceramic electronic component includes: a body including dielectric layers as well as a plurality of internal electrodes stacked with respective dielectric layers interposed therebetween and including a first metal; and external electrodes disposed on external surfaces of the body including a second metal, wherein at least some of the plurality of internal electrodes include a core-shell region including the first and second metals, and average contents of the second metal in a core portion and a shell portion of the core-shell region are different from each other.
