A blood draw device for performing arterial blood collection includes a catheter tube, a housing configured to movably receive the catheter tube, and an advancement member movably coupled to the housing to move the catheter tube between first and second positions, with a distal end of the catheter tube disposed beyond a distal end of the housing and past a distal tip of the indwelling arterial catheter when in the second position. A secondary catheter is coupled to the advancement member and extends out proximally therefrom, with a collection device coupled to the secondary catheter so as to be in fluid communication with the catheter tube. The blood draw device is configured such that a fluid path formed by the catheter tube and secondary catheter has a controlled geometric factor, defined as a ratio of a length of the fluid path to an inner diameter of the fluid path.

Lancing device with depth adjustment and lancet removal system and method

A lancet device includes a housing, a removable front cap mounted to the housing, a lancet holding member, a trigger and an arming system comprising a grippable cocking member structured and arranged to place the lancet device in a trigger-set or armed position. A depth adjustment system includes a member that is at least slidable and partially rotatably mounted and that has an axis of rotation arranged substantially parallel to a center axis of the lancet holding member. An ejection system includes an ejector having a portion extending outside a sidewall opening of the housing and being located closer to a front end of the housing than to a rear end of the housing. The sidewall opening of the housing is arranged on an area of the housing located between the trigger and a wall of the housing located opposite the trigger. The ejection system is structured and arranged to at least one of prevent axial movement of the lancet holding member or remove or eject a lancet from the lancet holding member.

Needle insertion and retraction arrangment with manually triggered, spring-loaded drive mechanism

Disclosed is a needle insertion arrangement (1) with a drive mechanism (9) comprising: a belt (15) frictionally engaging a first roller (10) and a needle retainer (7) with an injection needle (2) fixed to the belt, the first roller being rotatably arranged about an axis (A), a second roller (11) also rotatably arranged about the axis (A), a first spring (13) rotatably biasing the first roller against the second roller, a second spring (14) rotatably biasing the second roller against an arrester (12), the first and the second roller being connected via an internal protrusion (10.2) and arcuate slot (11.2), the two springs (13, 14) biasing the rollers (10, 11) from respective first to respective second angular positions (AP1.sub.1, AP1.sub.2, AP2.sub.1, AP2.sub.2), and a trigger mechanism (17,20) releasably locking the first and second rollers (10, 11) such that upon pivoting the trigger button (20) in one direction, the first roller drives the belt in one direction to linearly transport the needle retainer towards an extended position, and upon pivoting the trigger button in the other direction, the first roller drives the belt back to retract the needle retainer.

Tissue penetration device

A tissue penetration device includes a magnetic source that produces a controllable magnetic field in a magnetically active region adjacent the magnetic source. A magnetic member is disposed at least partially in the magnetically active region. A permanent magnet is disposed at a proximal end of the magnetically active region for zeroing the position of the magnetic member while the tissue penetration device is inactive.
