Method for providing visual information about at least part of an environment, computer program product, mobile communication device and communication system

A method for providing visual information about at least part of an environment on a display device is disclosed. The method involves detecting a first vehicle travelling ahead by a sensor device, requesting and receiving the visual information about the environment, a view onto which is concealed partly by the first vehicle, capturing an image of a certain part of the environment including at least part of the first vehicle, and displaying the image of the certain part of the environment and the received visual information as a video stream embedded in the image on the display device. When it is determined that an object different from the first vehicle is present in the certain part of the environment and that the object cannot be driven over, the displaying of the visual information is modified so that the at least one object is clearly visible for a driver.

Camera device for generating an image of surroundings

A camera device having an enlarged or wide-angle field of view generates images of surroundings simultaneously using only one image capturing unit, such as an image sensor, for example. The camera device uses a diverting unit disposed upstream of the image capturing unit. The diverting unit includes so-called holographic optical elements which, based on their deflection structures, divert or deflect light so that the camera device can capture the wide-angle field of view, without generating imaging aberrations on the resulting image(s). The deflection structures are wavelength-selective and/or angle-selective. The total field of view is subdivided into individual angle-of-incidence regions by virtue of the properties of the deflection structures.

Multi-camera imaging system selecting between visible and infrared views in a vehicle

In order to display driving assistance images to a driver in a vehicle, visible light images are captured using a visible light camera mounted for viewing a roadway on which the vehicle travels and infrared images overlapping with the visible light images are captured using an infrared camera mounted for viewing the roadway. The visible light images are normally displayed on a display screen when a visible light brightness around the vehicle is greater than a brightness threshold. Trigger conditions are monitored which are indicative of limitations of a driver visibility when directly viewing the roadway. The trigger conditions include a driver reaction. The monitored trigger condition is classified according to a plurality of predetermined classifications which indicate an occurrence of an impairment event. The infrared images are selected for display on the display screen upon occurrence of the impairment event.

Vehicular multi-camera surround view system with video display

A vehicular multi-camera surround view system includes a front camera, a driver-side camera, a passenger-side camera and a rear backup camera. Image data captured by the cameras is conveyed to an electronic control unit. The electronic control unit is operable to combine image data conveyed from the front camera, the driver-side camera, the passenger-side camera and the rear backup camera to form composite video images, which are output for display at a display device. Rear backup video images are displayed no later than two seconds after the driver of the vehicle first changes propulsion of the vehicle during a new ignition cycle to reverse mode. Upon changing propulsion of the vehicle during the new ignition cycle to reverse mode to commence a backup event subsequent to the first backup event, the video display screen displays video images derived, at least in part, from image data captured by the rear backup camera.

On-vehicle information display device

A vehicle information display device 100 includes: an environment determination unit (115) that predicts an occurrence of a backward movement of a vehicle based on an output from an environment information acquisition unit, an image processing unit (121) that receives an image captured by a camera and generates an image to be displayed on a display screen, and a display switching unit that switches a display of a monitor screen provided in a vehicle in accordance with a traveling status of the vehicle. When the environment determination unit (115) predicts an occurrence of a backward movement, the image processing unit (121) starts image processing for the backward movement in advance, and When the user performs the backward movement operation, the output image from the image processing unit is displayed on the display screen.
