Light weight heat-sealed tire
10933699 · 2021-03-02 · ·

A tire having reduced mass and low rolling resistance and a method of manufacture thereof achieves reduced weight by using thin layers of thermoplastic polyurethanes (TPU's) to heat seal the carcass, breaker, and tread layers of the tire to each other, rather than embedding the layers in conventional, relatively thicker and heavier layers of sulfur cured vulcanized carbon filled elastomers. Creep and spring-back of the thermoplastic polyurethanes during cure is avoided by maintaining the adhered layers under pressure until the assembly cools below its glass transition temperature. In embodiments, the heat sealing can be performed on the forming drum, and in some embodiments cool rollers are applied to the heat-sealed carcass so as to accelerate the cooling to below the glass transition temperature.

Provided is a heavy-duty pneumatic tire in which not only occurrence of a damage of CBU but also occurrence of pulling-out of a carcass ply can be inhibited, and which has excellent durability. In the tire, beads each include a cover enclosing at least a part of a core. The cover is located, between the core and the carcass ply, in a portion at which the carcass ply encloses the core. The cover is composed of one cover ply including a large number of aligned cover cords and a cover topping rubber covering the cover cords. A ratio of a distance between the cover cords to an outer diameter of a carcass cord is not lower than 0.35 and not higher than 0.85. A difference between a hardness of the cover topping rubber and a hardness of a carcass topping rubber is not less than 5 and not greater than 5.

A tire includes a pair of beads and a plurality of body plies extending between the pair of beads, including at least a first body ply and a second body ply. The first body ply wraps around each of the pair of beads, and has a first pair of turn up portions having a first height. The second body ply wraps around each of the pair of beads, and has a second pair of turn up portions having a second height greater than the first height. Each of the second pair of turn up portions is axially inside each of the first turn up portions. The tire also includes a circumferential belt disposed radially above the plurality of body plies, a circumferential tread disposed radially above the circumferential belt, and a pair of sidewalls extending between the pair of beads and the circumferential tread. The tire also has a pair of stabilizer ply inserts, including a first stabilizer ply insert and a second stabilizer ply insert.

A pneumatic tire comprises a carcass, a bead apex rubber, and a bead reinforcing cord layer. The bead apex rubber has a radially outer edge positioned at a radial height of 15% to 25% of the tire section height. The bead reinforcing cord layer comprises an axially inner first part disposed on the axially outside of a carcass ply main portion, and an axially outer second part disposed on the axially inside of a carcass ply turned-up portion. The radially outer edge of the axially outer second part is radially outwardly spaced apart from the radially outer edge of the carcass ply turned-up portion by at least 5 mm.

Pneumatic Tire

In a pneumatic tire including a side reinforcing layer, the maximum width W0of a bead core and the widths W1, W2 of the bead core at innermost and outermost sides in the radial direction, respectively, satisfy W1>W2 and W20.5W0. W0 is toward the inside of the center of the bead core in the radial direction. A carcass is folded and curved along the bead core, and a folded back portion of the carcass extends toward the sidewalls while contacting a body of the carcass. A rubber occupancy ratio in a region formed by the body and the folded back portion of the carcass is 0.1% to 15%. The cross-sectional area S2 of a filler toward the outside of the carcass in the lateral direction, the hardness H2 of the filler, the cross-sectional area S1of a side reinforcing layer and the hardness H1 of the side reinforcing layer satisfy 0.15(S2H2)/(S1H1)0.60.
