FIREFIGHTING FOAM COMPOSITIONS CONTAINING DEEP EUTECTIC SOLVENTS
The disclosed invention relates to novel biocompatible firefighting foam compositions that include a deep eutectic solvent. Disclosed are methods of making and using firefighting foams containing deep eutectic solvents, which may also be used in existing fire foam compositions as drop in solvent additives. The deep eutectic solvents may also be used in or as a principle component of surrogate firefighting foam compositions.
COMPOSITIONS COMPRISING A FLUOROOLEFIN
The present invention relates to compositions for use in refrigeration, air-conditioning, and heat pump systems wherein the composition comprises a fluoroolefin and at least one other component. The compositions of the present invention are useful in processes for producing cooling or heat, as heat transfer fluids, foam blowing agents, aerosol propellants, and fire suppression and fire extinguishing agents.
Compositions and uses of trans-1,1,1,4,4,4-hexafluoro-2-butene
Disclosed is a mixture comprising the compound trans-1,1,1,4,4,4-hexafluoro-2-butene and at least one additional compound selected from the group consisting of HFOs, HFCs, HFEs, CFCs, CO2, olefins, organic acids, alcohols, hydrocarbons, ethers, aldehydes, ketones, and others such as methyl formate, formic acid, trans-1,2 dichloroethylene, carbon dioxide, cis-HFO-1234ze+HFO-1225yez, mixtures of these plus water; mixtures of these plus CO2; mixtures of these trans 1,2-dichloroethylene (DCE); mixtures of these plus methyl formate; mixtures with cis-HFO-1234ze+CO2, mixtures with cis-HFO-1234ze+HFO-1225yez+CO2, and mixtures with cis-HFO-1234ze+HFC-245fa. Also disclosed are methods of using and products of using the above compositions as blowing agents, solvents, heat transfer compositions, aerosol propellant compositions, fire extinguishing and suppressant compositions.
Proportioner for a fire protection system
A proportioner having a body portion that defines a foam passage and a fluid passage. The proportioner also includes a restrictor assembly having a restrictor disk and an orifice plate having an opening for receiving the restrictor disk. The proportioner can further include a rod member connected to the restrictor disk and a clapper assembly connected to the rod member via a sliding interface. The clapper assembly can be configured to control a flow of the foam concentrate through the foam passage in proportion to a flow of the fire protection fluid through the fluid passage by moving the rod member to vary the distance between the restrictor disk and the orifice plate. The sliding interface can be disposed between a first guide and a second guide, and at least a portion of the restrictor disk is disposed in the opening.
FIRE EXTINGUISHING COMPOSITIONS AND METHOD
A firefighting foam preservative composition and a method of making the firefighting foam preservative composition are provided. The firefighting foam preservative composition includes a suspension system containing water and at least one suspension agent. The firefighting foam preservative composition also includes a first polysaccharide that is soluble in the suspension system; and a second polysaccharide that is insoluble in the suspension system, but soluble in water alone. Methods of using the firefighting foam preservative composition to produce a firefighting foam and using the firefighting foam to secure a hazard by extinguishing fire and/or suppressing flammable vapors are also provided.
Trimethylglycine as a freeze suppressant in fire fighting foams
Fire foam concentrates are provided that contain trimethyl glycine as a freeze suppressant, an effective amount of at least one anionic, zwitterionic or nonionic surfactant, and an effective amount of a foam stabilizing agent. Methods of preparing fire fighting foams from the concentrates, and methods of fighting fires using these foams, also are provided.
Use of high molecular weight acrylic polymers in fire fighting foams
Aqueous firefighting composition concentrates are provided that contain an effective amount of a high molecular weight water soluble anionic acrylic polymer, an effective amount of at least one high molecular weight polysaccharide gum; and an effective amount of at least one surfactant. In the present context, a high molecular weight water-soluble anionic acrylic polymer is a polymer with an average molecular weight M.sub.w of at least one million (1000 kDa). The combination of the acrylic polymer and the gum provide a concentrate that generates foam with highly desirable firefighting properties, including high foam expansion ratio, long burnback time, and slow drainage time while avoiding problems with previous gum-containing foam concentrates, such as high viscosity and component separation upon storage.
FLUORINATED OLEFINS AS WORKING FLUIDS AND METHODS OF USING SAME
A working fluid that includes a fluorinated olefin compound represented by the following general formula (I):
##STR00001##
FIRE EXTINGUISHING AGENT
Provided is a fire extinguishing agent that has a high expansion ratio even in a fire disaster induced by a liquid-based solvent, such as a polar solvent or a non-polar solvent, and has excellent fire resistance and fire-extinguishing performance, the fire extinguishing agent containing a cationic polyamine compound (A), a surfactant (B) having an anionic hydrophilic group and a fluoroalkyl group having 3 to 6 carbon atoms to which a fluorine atom is directly bonded, a polybasic acid compound (C), and one or more surfactants (D) selected from the group consisting of the following general formulae (D1) to (D5):
##STR00001##
wherein R represents a hydrocarbon group having 7 to 18 carbon atoms.
Fire extinguishing compositions and method
A firefighting extinguishing composition and method of making a firefighting extinguishing composition is provided. The firefighting extinguishing composition includes a suspension system comprising water and at least one suspending agent. The firefighting extinguishing composition also includes a first polysaccharide that is soluble in the suspension system. The firefighting extinguishing composition also includes a second polysaccharide that is insoluble in the suspension system but soluble in water alone. The firefighting extinguishing compositions can be used in many firefighting applications, including structural fires, packaging fires, material fires, tire fires, coal fires, peat fires, wild fires, bush fires, forest fires, and other similarly naturally occurring and industrially based fires.
