Method of forming phase change material

A method to form a phase change material (PCM). The method includes preparing a polymer solution by mixing an amount of a polymer in a solvent and mixing the polymer solution with an UiO-66 metal-organic framework (MOF) to form a composite. The polymer is a polyethylene glycol (PEG). The method further includes subjecting the composite to ultrasonic agitation and evaporating the solvent from the composite to form the PCM. After the evaporation of the solvent, particles of the PCM exhibit rounded octahedral structures.

Mechanochemical synthesis of metal-organic frameworks for molecular sieving and compositions and methods of use thereof

Methods of preparing and using a metal-organic framework (MOF) are provided herein, including methods of using an MOF comprising a repeat unit of the formula [ML].sub.n, wherein M is a divalent metal ion and L is a ligand of the formula: ##STR00001##
The MOFs provided herein may be used in the separation of two or more molecules from each other. In some embodiments, the molecules are ethylene and ethane. In some embodiments, UTSA-280 may be synthesized from calcium oxide (CaO) or calcium hydroxide (Ca(OH).sub.2) and squaric acid (SA) through mechanochemical synthesis.

SENSOR DEVICES COMPRISING A METAL-ORGANIC FRAMEWORK MATERIAL AND METHODS OF MAKING AND USING THE SAME

Disclosed herein are embodiments of sensor devices comprising a sensing component able to determine the presence of, detect, and/or quantify detectable species in a variety of environments and applications. The sensing components disclosed herein can comprise MOF materials, plasmonic nanomaterials, redox-active molecules, a metal, or any combinations thereof. In some exemplary embodiments, optical properties of the plasmonic nanomaterials and/or the redox-active molecules combined with MOF materials can be monitored directly to detect analyte species through their impact on external conditions surrounding the material or as a result of charge transfer to and from the plasmonic nanomaterial and/or the redox-active molecule as a result of interactions with the MOF material.

Methods of Making Metal-Organic Framework Extrudates

Methods making a metal-organic framework extrudate in an extruder comprising the steps of: (a) mixing a metal-organic framework material with an extrusion aid to form a metal-organic framework extrudate mixture; and (b) extruding the metal-organic framework mixture in the extruder to produce the metal-organic framework extrudate where the pressure within the extruder is reduced between about 10% to about 55% when compared to pressure within the extruder when extruding the metal-organic framework material without the extrusion aid. The extrusion aid can be a liquid extrusion aid, a solid extrusion aid and/or a polymeric extrusion aid.
