FILTER FOR THE SORPTION OF COMPONENTS OF TOBACCO SMOKE WHICH ARE HARMFUL TO HEALTH
A filter for sorption of components of tobacco smoke which are harmful to health comprises ceramic particles bonded to form a porous structure (12). In order to avoid contamination within a short period of time even when the filter is not properly disposed of, and without causing a loss in sorption or in the smoking sensation, the filter has decreasing water solubility from a tobacco-side portion (1) to an opposite mouth-side portion (2).
Compacting unit and method for the tobacco industry
A compacting unit for the tobacco industry includes a conveyor drum configured to convey groups of segments disposed perpendicularly to the feed direction. A first compactor and a second compactor have a first contact portion and a second contact portion, respectively. The first contact portion and the second contact portion are respectively adapted to be placed in contact with a first axial end and a second axial end of a group of segments in transit in the compacting station. The first contact portion is compliant, preferably elastically compliant, along a longitudinal direction of extension of the groups of segments upon interaction with the first axial end. The second contact portion defines a rigid abutment along the longitudinal direction of extension of the groups of segments suitable for setting a predetermined position for the second axial end.
DEVICE AND METHOD FOR PREPARING FULLY GRANULAR CIGARETTE/FILTER ROD, AND PREPARED FULLY GRANULAR CIGARETTE/FILTER ROD
A device and method for preparing a fully granular cigarette/filter rod, and a prepared fully granular cigarette/filter rod are disclosed. In certain embodiments, negative pressure is used to adhere granular material onto a mesh-type conveyor belt. The granular material is preliminarily formed into fully granular cigarette/filter rod material by means of a pre-forming apparatus; the fully granular cigarette/filter rod material, traveling with the mesh-type conveyor belt, enters into a forming cavity, and undergoes heating and humidifying treatment, and a continuous solid porous substance is formed; the continuous solid porous substance is moved into the cooling/drying cavity, drying and cooling treatment are performed under the action of negative pressure, and a fully granular cigarette/filter rod with strong adhesion, porosity, permeability, and appropriate moisture is obtained.
Method, mechanism and apparatus for momentary compression of filter material
A mechanism for a momentary compression of a filter material used in the tobacco industry, wrapped into a wrapper and glued with an adhesive delivered from an adhesive applying apparatus, adapted to being placed on a machine for manufacturing filter rods before the adhesive applying apparatus is characterised in that it comprises at least one rotary compressing member for pressing the filter material linearly moving underneath it. A method of a momentary compression of a filter material used in the tobacco industry, wrapped into a wrapper and glued with an adhesive delivered from an adhesive applying apparatus on a machine for manufacturing filter rods is characterised in that before wrapping the filter material into the wrapper the filter material is compressed by exerting a force on the filter material by at least one rotary compressing member.

Method and apparatus for incorporating objects into cigarette filters
Cigarette filter rods having individual objects positioned at predetermined intervals therein are prepared by transferring the individual objects from a rotating horizontal pan to a rotating vertical wheel and then depositing the object into a web of filter tow. Each object is positioned within the moving web of tow. The web filter material and the objects positioned within the web are introduced into a rod-forming unit wherein the rod is formed. The rate of feed of the filter tow, the rate of rotation of the horizontal pan and the vertical wheel are controlled relative to one another such that objects are positioned at predetermined intervals along the rod. Cigarette filter elements having well controlled amounts of flavorant contained therein can be made from the rods.
Cigarette filter manufacturing apparatus and cigarette filter manufacturing method
A cigarette filter manufacturing apparatus, includes, a stuffer jet which sends a tow together with air, a tongue which molds the tow into a bar, a convergence guide which is provided in a position between the stuffer jet and the tongue, and converges the tow while guiding the tow toward the tongue, and a plurality of thread introducing tubes, intervals between which are reduced toward downstream in a position between an outlet of the stuffer jet and an introducing part of the tongue, the thread introducing tubes supplying respective threads into the tow from respective downstream distal ends.
