RADIOTHERAPEUTICAL OR RADIOSURGICAL SYSTEM COMPRISING TWO OR MORE ROTATABLE HIGH-INTENSITY RADIATION SOURCES AND A RING-SHAPED IMAGER, AND METHODS THEREOF
20230218929 · 2023-07-13 ·

The present invention provides a radiotherapeutical or radiosurgical system comprising at least two high-intensity radiation sources configured to rotate around a common rotation axis and a ring-shaped imaging device. A three-source configuration is considered as the most cost-effective and will be used as an example for illustration. The three radiation sources are specially configured with each radiation source emits a radiation beam having an angle (α1, α2 or α3 respectively) relative to the common rotation axis and targets at a common isocenter. During a radiation treatment, the angles α1, α2 and α3 are independently of each other constant or variable with a magnitude of less than ±15°, and it always remains that α1≠α2, α1≠α3, and α2≠α3. The special configuration of these high-intensity radiation sources and use of a unique compact MLC for each of the radiation sources make it possible for the system to rapidly deliver high-conformal non-coplanar stereotactic radiation treatment in one gantry rotation without any couch rotation. Consequently, a ring-shaped imaging device, which does not allow couch rotation, can be integrated into the system to provide high-precision image guidance. Therefore, the present invention can deliver high precision and high-conformal non-coplanar stereotactic radiation treatment to any part of the body in an extremely short time (0.1-20 seconds), which may exhibit numerous advantages over the prior art, such as reduction of radiation damage to the circulating immune cells in blood and mitigation of patient motion-induced problems, among others.

The beam control device may include an electron beam generator configured to emit an electron beam for radiotherapy toward a subject in a first direction. The beam control device may further include a first deflection device configured to generate a defocused electron beam by defocusing the electron beam in a second direction, the second direction being different from the first direction.

Method for treating damaged peripheral nerves using x-ray microbeam irradiation

A method for treating damaged peripheral nerves of a subject includes irradiating at least a portion of the damaged PNs with an array of x-ray microbeams having an in-beam dose sufficient to at least initiate demyelination, each of the microbeams being no greater than 0.7 mm in thickness, and separated for tissue sparing, e.g., by at least 0.05 mm, and optionally administering schwann cell progenitors (SCPs) to the irradiated portion to remyelination before or after irradiating. In-beam dose may be between about 30 to 200 Gy. The method may include irradiating using an x-ray tube of a CT scanner having a multi-aperture collimator mounted thereto and on/near the subject. The SCPs may be adult rat olfactory sphere cells or neural stem cells.

Radiation therapy device and system

The present disclosure provides a radiation therapy device and system. The radiation therapy device includes a first treatment head and a second treatment head. A beam emitted from the second treatment head intersects with a beam emitted from the first treatment head at an intersection point. The first treatment head is an X-ray treatment head, and the second treatment head is an X-ray treatment head, a multi-source focusing treatment head, or an intensity-modulated treatment head. The radiation therapy device may increase a dose rate at the intersection point.

Method and apparatus for detecting position, and radiotherapy system

A method and apparatus for position detection, and a radiotherapy system are provided. The radiotherapy system includes: a treatment couch, a positioning apparatus, an optical tracking system and a computer; the positioning apparatus disposed on the treatment couch, and at least one reference point provided on the positioning apparatus; the optical tracking system disposed above the treatment couch and configured to detect relative positioning between a mark point set on a treated part of a patient and the reference point, determine deviation between the relative and reference positions, and send the deviation to the computer. The computer is configured to determine whether to adjust a position of the treatment couch based on the deviation and deviation range. The system provided by the present disclosure avoids the influence of patient movement on the accuracy of treatment, and prevents a treatment beam from damaging normal tissues of the patient.
