The apparatus (10) comprises a plurality of elongate, hollow barrier members (12). Each barrier member (12) defines an interior (18), an inlet arrangement (54), through which, in use, air can enter the interior (18) and an outlet arrangement (56), through which, in use, air can exit from the interior (18). The apparatus (10) is arranged so that each barrier member (12) abuts at least one adjacent barrier member (12). In use, the barrier members (10) are installed vertically in contact with the ground.

FLEXIBLE HEAT BARRIER AND FIRE SHELTER FOR WILDLAND FIREFIGHTERS MADE THEREFROM
20230218936 · 2023-07-13 ·

A flexible heat barrier is configured to absorb and deflect heat energy and utilizes a multilayer construction wherein each layer provides a specific purpose. An outer layer configured for exposure to a heat flux includes a coating having an intumescent component and an opacifier component. An inner layer includes a foil that may include a high emittance coating to more effectively reflect radiation. A middle layer includes an insulating fabric layer that may include oriented fibers that can effectively polarize radiation and may include a plurality of layers of oriented fibers that are configured at an offset angle to deflect and reduce radiation transmission through the middle layer. A flexible heat barrier may also include a flexible gas barrier that includes a phase change material, such as frits that melt at a predetermined temperature and flow into gaps to reduce the permeability and further block heat flux.

20220412553 · 2022-12-29 ·

An apparatus configured to perform a prescribed burn of vegetative ground fuel comprises a movable platform configured to traverse ground that contains the vegetative ground fuel, and a burn chamber disposed on the movable platform. An ignition source is disposed in the burn chamber and configured to ignite vegetative ground fuel within a prescribed burn region of the ground. A containment arrangement is situated relative to the burn chamber and configured to confine burning of the vegetative ground fuel to the prescribed burn region. A discharge apparatus is positioned relative to the burn chamber and configured to expel residual effluent from the burn chamber. An extinguisher system can be included to extinguish residual flames and embers. A smoke filtration system can be included to filter residual effluent expelled from the burn chamber.

Inflatable fire barrier
11633635 · 2023-04-25 ·

A fire barrier includes an inflatable base deployable from an empty state to a fully inflated state and a first row of panels including a plurality of first panels disposed on the inflatable base. The base supports the plurality of first panels in an upright state when the inflatable base is in the fully inflated state, thereby forming a wall having a front side and a rear side opposing the front side. Each of the plurality of panels is independently elastically bendable with respect to the inflatable base. A coating of an infrared reflective material is disposed on each of the plurality of panels on the front side of the wall.

HAIR INFUSED FIRE SUPPRESENT METHOD AND APPARATUS
20230149752 · 2023-05-18 ·

A method and apparatus for using hair infused mats which may be pretreated so as to be fire resistant and selectively over-saturated with water may be positioned underneath a sod surface for suppressing a migrating fire. The mat may be saturated using a slow drip irrigation system that also enhances a root system of integrated vegetation. In addition, forms of Afro hair may be delivered aerially to suppress a fire.

EMBER SCREEN
20230175280 · 2023-06-08 · ·

An ember screen for protecting a building from ember attack comprising a series of individual fire-resistant screens joined laterally. The screens are sealedly attached to the building above any fire susceptible features, typically to a gutter. The bottom of the screens are held in place and sealed to the ground with the aid of sand bags.

Multi TFI with fluid sprinklers
20170296850 · 2017-10-19 ·

A fire extinguisher apparatus that consists on a loading lever network that gets built in the transport equipment allowing manipulation of the device that is directly introduced to the fire to compress it and by this, stopping the combustion process. Simultaneously, the said extinguishing apparatus will inject a series of substances over the flames, drastically reducing temperature of the fire zone, avoiding reignition when the device collapses on the different interventions these have.

The Main Lever of such network is originally built in to the transport equipment and one end will branch different tips which will form a net of smaller lever which will hang the TFI device. A tension cable will go across the upper part of the Main lever to bring more resistance and provide much more strength by preventing arcing of the lever when handling very heavy loads. A pipeline network that extends and is supported over and through the lever network, transports the cooling substances from the fluid deposits until the injecting sprinklers are arranged in the upper part of the attack devices.

Wide-area fire-retardant system using distributed dense water fogger
11666788 · 2023-06-06 ·

A wide-area wildfire suppression system uses a network of geographically distributed water sprayers, and includes at least one wind sensor and a fire-suppression controller communicatively coupled to the water sprayers and the at least one wind sensor. The at least one wind sensor detects wind direction and communicates wind-direction information to the fire-suppression controller, which uses the wind-direction information to activate at least one of the water sprayers upwind of an asset or area to be protected. Parameters of the water spray, such as flow rate, droplet size, spray pattern, spray direction, spray elevation, or aeration, can be adapted based on wind direction or wind speed.

FIRE PROTECTION SYSTEMS AND METHODS

The fire extinguishing tarpaulin is configured for use extinguishing a chemical combustion reaction in an area of conflagration. The fire extinguishing tarpaulin comprises a fire tarpaulin, a rocket system, and an aircraft. The fire tarpaulin forms a gas impermeable barrier that limits the chemical combustion by limiting access to the oxygen required to sustain the chemical combustion reaction. The rocket system is a propulsion system that propels the fire tarpaulin to the chemical combustion reaction. The aircraft is a vehicle used: a) as a launching platform to deliver the fire tarpaulin to the chemical combustion reaction; and, b) a vehicle to subsequently recover the fire tarpaulin for future use.
