The invention relates to an atmospheric water generator that includes an absorption heat transformer (AHT) designed as a heat pump that is able to extract heat even from waste heat sources at or below ambient temperatures, with an evaporator working at a favourable design temperature (preferably between 2° C. and 15° C.) for chilled water supply to a cold coil that extracts atmospheric water from ambient air. The AHT employs a pseudo-isobaric temperature glide bubble reactor that contains a suitable binary liquid-vapour mixture in a density separation distillation environment, powered by a vapour absorption process.

Multiple-effect system and method for desalination and cooling

A multi-effect system and a multi-effect method for desalination are provided. The method comprises flowing saline water over a thermally conductive plate of a first evaporation chamber; heating the thermally conductive plate to evaporate the saline water, resulting in vapor; removing the vapor from the first evaporation chamber; compressing, using a compressor, the vapor, thereby creating compressed vapor; pumping the compressed vapor into a first condensation chamber; condensing the compressed vapor in the first condensation chamber, resulting in fresh water. The method further comprises heating, by heat released by the condensing of the compressed vapor, a second thermally conductive plate forming a top of the first condensation chamber and a bottom surface of a next evaporation chamber in a next desalination chamber in the vertical stack of desalination chambers.

More specifically, the invention relates to an atmospheric water generator, to a condensation arrangement for an atmospheric water generator, and to a process for extracting water from air. The generator disclosed herein comprises a coolant chilling unit, a condensation arrangement, and a water holding and/or filtration arrangement which cooperate to extract water from air and store and/or filter the same for use.

The systems and methods use sorbent materials, such as metal-organic frameworks, to adsorb water from the air. The systems and methods desorb this water in the form of water vapor, and the water vapor is condensed into liquid water and collected. The liquid water is suitable for use as drinking water.

The heat and mass transfer component may exhibit a substantial increase in heat transfer coefficient during hydrocarbon condensation.
