HANDHELD SOLIDS DISPENSER
20230003567 · 2023-01-05 ·

A handheld solids dispenser. The dispenser includes a housing defining an inlet passage and an outlet passage. A delivery mechanism is supported within the housing and is positioned between the inlet passage and the outlet passage. Actuation of the delivery mechanism causes the delivery mechanism to transport a desired amount of solids material from the inlet passage to the outlet passage. The delivery member may be in the form of a plunger slidably positioned within the housing. The delivery mechanism may be in the form of a screw conveyor driven by a drive motor.

Method of Mass Analysis - Controlling Viscosity of Solvent for OPP Operation
20230028264 · 2023-01-26 ·

A droplet (415) is ejected from a surface (411) of a fluid sample containing an analyte using an ejector (420). A solvent is pumped into a solvent inlet (432) of an open port probe (OPP) (430) spaced apart from the surface using a pump (438). The solvent is pumped to send it from the solvent inlet (432) to a tip (431) of the OPP (430) through a solvent capillary (434) of the OPP (430), receive the droplet (415) at the tip (431) where the droplet is combined with the solvent to form an analyte-solvent dilution, and transport the dilution from the tip (431) to an output (435) of the OPP (430) through a sample capillary (436) of the OPP (430). The solvent is heated to a temperature above a threshold temperature using a heating element (437). The solvent is heated to reduce the viscosity of the solvent below a threshold viscosity and maintain the viscosity below the threshold viscosity as the dilution is transported from the tip (431) to the outlet (435).

Cell handling device

The cell handling device includes a container having a section to store cells; a cell detection unit for detecting a cell stored in the section; a head device for conducting picking of cells, and transfer and release of the picked cells; a control unit; and a determination unit for making a determination of a cell state including at least one of the number, properties, and arrangement of the cells based on a detection result of the cell detection unit. The control unit causes the head device to execute, according to a state determination result obtained by the determination unit, one operation selected from among operation of picking all the cells stored in the section, operation of picking a part of the cells stored in the section, operation of picking a new cell and releasing the cell in the section, and operation of terminating processing of the section.

APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR COLLECTING LIQUID SAMPLES

The present invention relates to devices and methods for collecting liquid samples such as for removing a target liquid sample fraction from a larger liquid sample, e.g., from a biological sample. These devices and methods are particularly useful for rapidly and cost-effectively removing the buffy coat layer from an anticoagulated blood sample. These devices and methods have the advantage that the removal can be made on blood sample processed by ordinary centrifugation and do not require more complicated or costly processing techniques such as density gradient centrifugation.

MICROPUMP HAVING A CAPILLARY STRUCTURE, AND USE

A micropump for exchanging liquid between a supply region and a working region is provided. An enclosed gas region is located above the working region. The micropump includes a capillary pipette having a closed pipette tip on a first end, an open pipette inlet disposed opposite the first end, and a pipette section enclosing the working region and disposed in a direction of the open pipette inlet from the closed pipette tip. The micropump further includes a liquid-permeable filter covering the open pipette inlet and connected to the supply region. The micropump additionally includes a capillary structure extending through the gas region between the closed pipette tip and the liquid-permeable filter.

Pipette block with molded piston chambers
20170361313 · 2017-12-21 ·

The present invention relates to a pipette dispensing block with an improved design for the piston chambers. In a multichannel pipetting block with a grid or array of pipetting piston of any order, the individual piston chambers are individually manufactured using the injection molding process. The individual piston chambers are assembled into a grid or single line array and held together by upper and lower plates in combination with either stabilizing posts or walls. The piston chambers are designed and assembled with a dual o-ring design at the tip and a tip sealing gasket at the bottom to provide the air-tight seal that is required for optimum pipetting performance. When combined with pistons and a motor-driven lifting plate for the pistons, the entire assembly forms a forms a multichannel pipetting block

MICROFLUIDIC SYSTEM FOR OIL SAMPLE ANALYSIS

The present invention refers to a system comprising microfluidic devices of extraction, capacitance analysis, together with the smartphone-controlled potentiostat, consisting of a portable system that can be applied on offshore platforms and offering an analytical procedure that requires low levels of samples and chemical ingredients. In addition, the assembly provides the in loco, fast analysis of species having fouling features with high analytical frequency. The ability to carry out these analyzes in low BSW oils represents a strong analytical improvement view of the technical difficulties observed in traditional methods that use liquid-liquid extraction. Thus, the possibility of quickly predicting the ionic composition profile of these water samples becomes a strategy for monitoring, control and decision-making actions in the production chain, making it possible to establish more appropriate fouling inhibition strategies, enabling more proactive actions rather than reactive ones to be taken by the operator. Therefore, unscheduled production stops caused by fouling in the production system are prevented.

Positive displacement pipette having an improved ejection function
09804064 · 2017-10-31 · ·

A positive displacement sampling pipette which includes a control rod, the bottom end of which controls the displacement of a device for gripping the top end of a piston of a capillary-piston assembly intended to cooperate with said pipette. The pipette includes an ejection rod of the capillary-piston assembly, movably mounted with respect to the control rod such that its bottom end exerts an ejection strain on the top end of the piston accommodated in the gripping device during a relative displacement between the ejection rod and the control rod.
