An object of the invention is to provide a coated cutting tool whose tool life can be extended by having excellent wear resistance and fracture resistance. The coated cutting tool includes: a substrate; and a coating layer formed on a surface of the substrate, in which the coating layer includes a lower layer, an intermediate layer, and an upper layer in this order from a substrate side to a surface side of the coating layer, the lower layer includes one or more Ti compound layers formed of a specific Ti compound, the intermediate layer contains TiCNO, TiCO, or TiAlCNO, the upper layer contains α-type Al.sub.2O.sub.3, an average thickness of the lower layer is 2.0 μm or more and 8.0 μm or less, an average thickness of the intermediate layer is 0.5 μm or more and 2.0 μm or less and is 10% or more and 20% or less of an average thickness of the entire coating layer, an average thickness of the upper layer is 0.8 μm or more and 6.0 μm or less, and in the intermediate layer, a ratio of a length of CSL grain boundaries and a ratio of a length of Σ3 grain boundaries are in specific ranges.

A cutting tool includes a cemented carbide substrate. The cemented carbide consists of hard constituents in a metallic binder. The hard constituents include WC. The WC content in the cemented carbide is 80-93 wt %. The cemented carbide has Ni and Al, and a Ni content of 3-13 wt %, a weight ratio of Co/Ni<0.33, a weight ratio of Fe/Ni<0.25, a weight ratio of Cr/Ni<0.25 and a weight ratio of 0.02<Al/(Ni+Co+Fe)<0.1. The crack resistance W is defined as the ratio of the load applied on a Vickers hardness indentation and the total crack length of the cracks formed at the corners of the Vickers hardness indentation. The product of the hardness H(rake) at the rake face and the crack resistance W(rake) at the rake face is H(rake)*W(rake)>5000 HV100*N/μm.

A cutting tool includes a substrate of cemented carbide having hard constituents in a metallic binder. The hard constituents include WC. The WC content in the cemented carbide is 80-95 wt %. The cemented carbide has a Fe+Ni+Co+Cr content of 3-13 wt %, an atomic ratio of 0.05<Fe/(Fe+Ni+Co+Cr)<0.35, an atomic ratio of 0.05<Ni/(Fe+Ni+Co+Cr)<0.35, an atomic ratio of 0.05<Co/(Fe+Ni+Co+Cr)<0.35 and an atomic ratio of 0.05<Cr/(Fe+Ni+Co+Cr)<0.35. The crack resistance W measured on the rake face of the cutting tool is at least 25% higher than the W measured on a cross section of the bulk area of the cutting tool.

The present disclosure relates to a rhomboid-shaped double-sided turning insert having a convex cutting corner flanked by two flank faces, wherein the insert comprises, on each side: a rhomboid-shaped rake face opposite the face of the opposite side; a lateral cutting corner surface arranged adjoining and between the two flank faces; two flanking edges, each formed between a respective flank face and a rhomboid side of the rake face; a cutting edge formed by a straight primary cutting edge and a straight secondary cutting edge, formed between the lateral cutting corner surface and the rake face, arranged adjoining and between the two flanking edges, wherein the primary cutting edge is longer than the secondary cutting edge; and a chip-deflecting surface which is recessed and arranged inwardly of said cutting edge; wherein a lateral cutting corner surface of the insert, formed by the lateral cutting corner surfaces of a first and a second side, extends between the first side and second side cutting edges, wherein the primary cutting edge and secondary cutting edge are in reversed positions between the first and second sides.

A cutting insert according to one embodiment includes: a rake face; a flank face continuous to the rake face; and a cutting edge constituted of a ridgeline between the rake face and the flank face. A coolant flow path is provided inside the cutting insert. One end portion of the coolant flow path opens in the flank face to form a coolant ejection hole. The flank face is provided with a coolant guide groove extending from the coolant ejection hole toward the cutting edge with a base end portion of the coolant guide groove being connected to the coolant ejection hole and with a front end portion of the coolant guide groove being disposed at a position close to the cutting edge relative to the base end portion.

A cutting insert according to one embodiment includes: a rake face; a flank face continuous to the rake face; and a cutting edge constituted of a ridgeline between the rake face and the flank face. A coolant flow path is provided inside the cutting insert. One end portion of the coolant flow path opens in the flank face to form a coolant ejection hole. The flank face is provided with a coolant guide groove extending from the coolant ejection hole toward the cutting edge with a base end portion of the coolant guide groove being connected to the coolant ejection hole and with a front end portion of the coolant guide groove being disposed at a position close to the cutting edge relative to the base end portion.

Cutting tool and method of manufacturing the same

A cutting tool includes a substrate and a diamond layer that covers the substrate. The diamond layer includes a rake face and a flank continuous to the rake face. A ridgeline between the rake face and the flank forms a cutting edge. The substrate includes a top surface opposed to the rake face. When viewed in a direction perpendicular to the top surface, the rake face includes a plurality of protrusions. In a cross-section perpendicular to a direction of extension of the cutting edge, each of the plurality of protrusions includes an inclined portion and a curvature portion continuous to the inclined portion. In the cross-section, a height of the inclined portion in the direction perpendicular to the top surface increases as a distance from the cutting edge increases.

The present invention discloses a tool holding device for shank type tools, comprising at least one tool holder, a base part and a top part, whereby at least the top part comprises uptake holes for the at least one tool holder characterized in that, the tool holding device can be used for more than one process step among transfer, cleaning, pretreatment, coating, posttreatment, and each of the at least one tool holders can optionally take up a sleeve holding the shank type tool in a distinct, preferably upright position and comprises one or more openings, which allow fluid and/or solid treatment agents to exit the tool holder and/or sleeve and the at least one tool holder and/or sleeve enables three-fold rotation of the shank type tool. Further a method using the inventive tool holding device is disclosed.
