A barrier device is provided for an inlet cowl for an aircraft engine including an inner barrel circumferentially surrounding an opening in the inlet cowl formed along an axis of rotation of the aircraft engine, through which air passes to the aircraft engine, the inner barrel including a face sheet disposed on a radially inward side of the inner barrel relative to the axis. The barrier device includes a containment doubler of the inner barrel, disposed on a radially outward side of the inner barrel, and a blade fragment barrier including one or more strips disposed between the containment doubler and the face sheet, so as to extend circumferentially at least partially around the opening and to occupy a radial distance between the containment doubler and the face sheet.

The method further includes detaching, debonding, and removing a second wing portion from the composite part to obtain a second exposed surface portion. The weld nugget, adjacent heat affected zones, and the adjacent parent-metal portions or new metal portions, are indented at a weld nugget and heat affected zone, to produce threshold levels of uniform plastic strain which meet or exceed plastic strain levels that provide, when the weld nugget and heat affected zone is heat treated, a recrystallized grain structure metallurgically comparable to the grain structure of the original parent-metal of the rotor. Repaired integrally bladed rotors for gas turbine engines, such as aircraft engines, are provided. Blades for gas turbine engines, including integrally bladed rotors, may be advantageously provided, having been manufactured or repaired as described.

The repaired portion can have a repaired geometry that includes at least one film hole absent in the original geometry, with the film holes being fluidly connected to a cooling supply of the repaired component.
