METHODS FOR REPAIRING FILM HOLES IN A SURFACE
Methods for repairing an airfoil having a damaged region are provided. The method can include removing the damaged portion from the airfoil to form an intermediate component. The damaged portion generally includes an original film hole having an original cross-sectional geometry. Using additive manufacturing, a replacement portion is then applied on the intermediate component to form a repaired component with the replacement portion including a rebuilt film hole having a rebuilt cross-sectional geometry that is different than the original cross-sectional geometry.
METHOD FOR REPAIRING A COMPONENT
A method for repairing a component is provided, including the following steps: introducing a recess into the component, via which recess a damaged region in the component is removed; positioning a filler body in the recess; and fixedly, i.e. non-detachably, connecting the filler body to the component, wherein the filler body is provisionally secured to the component prior to establishing the fixed connection to the component, in that a securing element is placed over the filler body and the securing element is attached to the component, wherein the securing element is removed again after the establishing of the fixed connection between the filler body and the component.
BONDING SYSTEM FOR DUAL WALLED TURBINE COMPONENTS
A system is for bonding a cover sheet to a core to form or repair a dual wall structure. The system includes a cover sheet probe and an inner pedestal probe. A three dimensional contoured tip of the cover sheet probe abuts against a three dimensional contoured outer surface of the cover sheet opposite a pedestal of the core. The pedestal abuts the inner surface of the cover sheet. The inner pedestal probe may be coupled to the core to create a conductive electrical path from the cover sheet probe through at least part of the structure. A flow of electric power is controlled and supplied to the cover sheet probe to heat a junction between the area of the cover sheet abutting the pedestal and the pedestal. A heated area is created in the junction and fixedly couples the coversheet and the pedestal.
TOOL FOR EXTRACTING A METAL PIECE
An extracting tool for extracting a metal piece located in an aerodynamic stream of a turbomachine, such as a flow splitter nose, includes a rod; a first stop located at a distal end of the rod and provided with a claw for bearing against a first edge of the metal piece; a gripping member translationally mounted to the rod and including a first projecting portion arranged to receive a second, opposite edge of the metal piece; a tightening mechanism configured to keep the gripping member bearing against the metal piece and the first stop.
AIRCRAFT ENGINE ROTOR REPAIRED WITH MICROSTRUCTURAL ENHANCEMENT
A rotor for use in an aircraft engine, that has been repaired by (a) welding together a first portion of a damaged blade of the rotor and a second portion of metal to form a weld nugget, (b) compressively stressing the weld nugget throughout its volume, and (c) heat treating the compressively stressed weld nugget to recrystallize metal therein.
Turbine exhaust cylinder baffle seal and method for installing turbine exhaust cylinder baffle seal
A gas turbine includes an exhaust cylinder comprising an inner circumferential slot, a diffuser shell disposed at least substantially concentrically within the exhaust cylinder and one or more baffle plates extending between the exhaust cylinder and the diffuser shell, a proximal end of each of the one or more baffle plates being fixed to the diffuser shell by one or more holding rings and a distal end of each of the one or more baffle plates being slidingly received within the inner circumferential slot of the exhaust cylinder. The one or more holding rings are secured to the diffuser shell, at one or more holding segments disposed along an inner diameter of the diffuser shell, via a plurality of radially inserted fastening members.
Component repair using brazed surface textured superalloy foil
A superalloy component such as a gas turbine engine blade (40) having a ceramic thermal barrier coating (41) is repaired using a textured repair foil (30). A degraded region of the thermal barrier coating is removed (14) and the underlying superalloy material surface is prepared (16) for re-coating. The repair foil is includes a layer of boron-free braze material (34) and a layer of superalloy material (32) having a textured surface (36). The foil is brazed (18) to the prepared surface during a solution heat treatment effective to homogenize the braze (20). A new area of thermal barrier coating (46) is applied over the foil with a bond that is enhanced by the texturing of the foil surface.
REPAIR OF AN ASSEMBLY COMPRISING A MAIN BODY AND A REINFORCEMENT
A repair method for repairing an assembly including a main body and an old reinforcement, the assembly including an initial hole passing through the old reinforcement and at least a portion of the main body, the method including removing the old reinforcement; positioning a plug in the initial hole in the main body; fastening a new reinforcement on the main body, the new reinforcement covering the plug; and forming a new hole passing through the new reinforcement and at least a portion of the main body.
Methods for treating field operated components
A method for treating a field operated component is disclosed which includes providing the component including a ceramic matrix composite and removing a first portion of the component, forming a first exposed surface on the component. The method further includes providing a second portion including the composite, the second portion having a second exposed surface including a conformation adapted to mate with the first exposed surface. The second portion is positioned in association with the component so as to replace the first portion, and the second portion and the component are joined to form a treated component. Another method is disclosed wherein the component is a turbine component which further includes removing an environmental barrier coating from the component, arranging and conforming the first exposed surface and the second exposed surface to define a joint, and applying an environmental barrier coating to the treated component.
REPAIR MATERIAL PREFORM
A structural element for repairing a damaged component comprising a shaped cavity configured to receive the damaged component and a repair material, the shaped cavity comprising a material having a first melting point and the repair material comprising a material having a second melting point that is lower than the first melting point. The shaped cavity may comprise a preform for the damaged component. The preform may comprise a mold configured to reconstruct the shape of the damaged component. The repair material may comprise a first material and a second material, the second material having a melting point that is lower than the first material. The repair material may comprise a Nickel-Boron composition. The repair material may have a melting point that is approximately 40 degrees Fahrenheit lower than the melting point of the damaged component.
