20230050046 · 2023-02-16 ·

A molding device for producing a molded module. The molding device has one tool part and one further tool part, which together enclose a cavity. At least one of the tool parts has at least one dividing web arranged and configured to subdivide the cavity into at least a low-pressure sub-cavity and a high-pressure sub-cavity. The tool part has at least two feed channels, of which a low-pressure feed channel opens into the low-pressure sub-cavity and has a smaller cross-section at least over a longitudinal portion than a high-pressure feed channel opening into the high-pressure sub-cavity. The low-pressure feed channel is configured to become pressure-resistantly blocked through hardening of the molding compound once a predetermined time interval has elapsed or during the interval. The high-pressure feed channel is configured to conduct a molding pressure into the cavity for a longer time interval than the low-pressure feed channel.

An injection-molding tool has at least two separate mold parts forming a set of mold cavities, and a set of runner channels extending between the mold inlet and leading melt flow to the mold cavities. The set of runner channels comprises a number of junctions, each junction dividing a downstream end of a primary runner channel extending upstream from the junction into two or more separate secondary runner channels extending downstream from the junction. A stretch of the downstream end of the primary runner has a cross section area being smaller than the cross section area of the primary runner further upstream from the junction.

Methods and systems for co-extruding multiple polymeric material flow streams into a mold having a plurality of cavities to produce a plurality of multi-layer polymeric articles each having a consistent coverage of an interior core layer are disclosed herein. In an example method, a flow rate of a first skin material into a cavity is individually controlled for each cavity before initiation of co-injection of a second core material into the cavity, which may address inconsistent interior core layer coverage for articles from different cavities.
