The invention discloses a belt retractor comprising a frame (10), a belt reel (12) which is arranged rotatably in the frame (10) and can receive a seat belt (14), at least one load limiter (16) which enables the belt reel (12), when it overcomes a braking torque provided by the load limiter (16), to rotate relative to the frame (10) so as to release seat belt (14), and a switchable clutch (26) including a switching cage (22) and coupling elements (24), wherein the switching cage (22) can be shifted by means of an actor (28) from an open position in which the coupling elements (24) are maintained disengaged from the belt reel (12) to a closed position in which the coupling elements (24) engage the belt reel (12). In order to achieve a compact design, the belt retractor includes an actuator (38) which is coupled to the actor (28) and a freewheel (40) which couples the switching cage (22) to the actuator (38) so that the actuator (38) can shift the switching cage (22) from the open position to the closed position.

It is provided that the pyrotechnic tensioner drive (30) has one or more drive elements (33) which, after activation of the pyrotechnic tensioner drive (30), is or are set into motion, and, after activation of the pyrotechnic tensioner drive (30), the force-flux-control element (100) is adjusted directly or indirectly by the drive element (33) orin the case of a plurality of drive elements (33)by at least one of the drive elements (33) of the pyrotechnic tensioner drive (30) into the deactivation position.

A belt tensioner for a seatbelt system comprising a spur gearing (18). The spur gearing (18) comprises at least one motor gearwheel (24) and at least a first stepped wheel (26) and a second stepped wheel (28). The motor gearwheel (24) forms a first gear stage (34) with the first stepped wheel (26), and the first stepped wheel (26) forms a second gear stage (36) with the second stepped wheel (28). The motor gearwheel (24) and each of the stepped wheels (24, 26) include helical teeth, and the helix angle of the helical teeth of the second gear stage (36) is determined depending on the helix angle of the first gear stage (34). The overlap ratio of at least one helical toothing is not integer.
