A control valve (12) for applying a spring-loaded brake pressure (p3b) to spring-loaded parts of a rear-axle wheel brake is provided. The control valve (12) is activatable pneumatically via a second control input (12b) with a parking-brake control pressure (p5). The parking-brake control pressure (p5) can act in such a manner on a control mechanism (14b, 15b, 17c, 22, 23, 24) arranged in a valve housing (12f) of the control valve (12) that a spring-loaded brake pressure (p3b) arises at a control output (12c) of the control valve (12) as a function of the parking-brake control pressure (p5) for bringing about a parking-brake braking specification with the spring-loaded parts of the rear-axle wheel brakes. The control valve (12) has a first control connection (12a) connectable to an adjustable first control chamber (14a), which is operatively connected to the control mechanism (14b, 15b, 17c, 22, 23, 24).

The invention concerns an electronic parking brake system (2), comprising an air supply (4), a check valve (6), connected to the air supply, an electro-pneumatic control unit (8), at least one park brake actuator (10), a relay valve (12), comprising a first port (12a) connected to the check valve, a second port (12b) connected to the electro-pneumatic control unit, a third port (12c) connected to the park brake actuator and a fourth port (12d) which is in communication with the atmosphere, and an electrically actuated valve (14), which is controlled by the electro-pneumatic control unit (8) and which includes a first orifice (14a) connected to a compressed air line (16) extending between the check valve and the air supply, a second orifice (14b), a third orifice (14c) connected to the electro-pneumatic control unit (8), and preferably a vent orifice. The second orifice (14b) is connected to another compressed air line (18) extending between the check valve (6) and the first port (12a) of the relay valve (12).

The manually actuatable operating unit has a first operating element and a second operating element. In the case of actuation of the first operating element when the vehicle is driving, the parking brake actuators are activated and a trailer brake pressure is output at the trailer brake pressure port. In the case of actuation of the second operating element when the vehicle is driving, only a trailer brake pressure is output.

The control system comprises an input interface configured to accept a deceleration reference for controlling the pneumatic brake, and a memory configured to store a reference governor providing executable instructions for modifying the deceleration reference upon its violation of a wheel-slip constraint, and configured to store a controller providing executable instructions for mapping the modified deceleration reference to a sequence of control commands for controlling pressure applied by the pneumatic brake. The control system further comprises a processor configured to execute the reference governor to modify the deceleration reference and configured to execute the controller to map the modified deceleration reference to the sequence of control commands. Further, an output interface of the control system is configured to output the sequence of control commands to control the pneumatic brake.
