Lightning protection system for external floating roof tank
A floating roof system with lightning protection includes a storage tank and a floating roof disposed inside the storage tank. A shoe seal is installed in sealing contact with an inner side wall surface of the storage tank. A primary seal extends between a rim of the floating roof and the shoe seal. A secondary seal extends over the primary seal and has an end in sealing contact with the inner side wall surface of the storage tank. Several shunts are distributed along a perimeter of the floating roof. The shunts extend over the primary seal and under the secondary seal. The shunts are attached to the primary seal and shoe seal by connections distributed along the shoe seal. The shunts are also attached to the primary seal, the secondary seal, and the rim of the floating roof by connections distributed along the rim.
FLOATING ROOF SEAL AND RELATED METHODS
A storage system for a petroleum product and related methods includes a floating roof seal having a vapor barrier and a coupling assembly. The coupling assembly includes a barrier securement and a shoe mount bracket for securing to a shoe plate. The barrier securement has a securement body and a resilient portion biased toward a clamp position and configured to selectively deflect relative to the securement body from the clamp position to an installation position. The barrier securement with the resilient portion in the installation position is configured to be received on the shoe mount bracket such that the barrier portion is positioned between the barrier securement and the shoe mount bracket. The barrier securement with the resilient portion in the clamp position is configured to compress the barrier portion against the shoe mount bracket thereby fluidly sealing the barrier portion between the shoe mount bracket and the barrier securement.

STORAGE TANK MONITORING APPARATUS AND METHODS
Apparatus and methods for measuring the deformation in a floating-roof seal assembly. A fiber optic cable is attached along its length to the floating-roof seal assembly such that the fiber optic cable is deformed when the floating-roof seal assembly is deformed. Deformation of the fiber optic cable and the seal assembly can be determined based on how the light interacts with the fiber optic cable. This helps allow tanks with a floating roof to be monitored.

FLOATING ROOF SECONDARY SEAL
A secondary seal system for a storage tank having a floating roof includes a seal compression plate attached to and extending upwards at an oblique angle from the floating roof, extending around the circumference of the floating roof; a seal element attached to the compression plate for sealing between the compression plate and an inner surface of the storage tank; a plurality of anti-rollover plates attached to and extending upwards from the seal compression plate; and a plurality of anti-rollover braces attached to a major surface of the seal compression plate.

BUOYANT COVER
A buoyant cover has a planar body, the body having a first buoyant insulating layer, a second tensile layer overlaying the first buoyant insulating layer, the planar body having a periphery configured based on the tank perimeter to provide a limited gap with the tank perimeter, and the body defining a plurality of peripheral holes positioned about the periphery and proximate the periphery. The second tensile layer may be wrapped about an edge of the first buoyant insulating layer. There may be an underlying portion of the second tensile layer near the periphery. A peripheral seam may be sewn through the underlying portion and the first buoyant insulating layer. The peripheral holes may penetrate the underlying portion. There may be grommets defining the peripheral holes. The planar body may have a circular periphery.
