Phase gradient nanocomposite window fabrication and method of fabricating durable optical windows
A unitary radome layer assembly is provided and includes a first nanocomposite formulation and a second nanocomposite formulation. The first and second nanocomposite formulations are provided together in a unitary radome layer with respective distribution gradients.
Magnetic Material Sputtering Target and Manufacturing Method Thereof
Provided is an oxide-containing magnetic material sputtering target wherein the oxides have an average grain diameter of 400 nm or less. Also provided is a method of producing an oxide-containing magnetic material sputtering target. The method involves depositing a magnetic material on a substrate by the PVD or CVD method, then removing the substrate from the deposited magnetic material, pulverizing the material to obtain a raw material for the target, and further sintering the raw material. An object is to provide a magnetic material target, in particular, a nonmagnetic grain-dispersed ferromagnetic sputtering target capable of suppressing discharge abnormalities of oxides that are the cause of particle generation during sputtering.
BEAM SHAPING ASSEMBLY FOR NEUTRON CAPTURE THERAPY
A beam shaping assembly for neutron capture therapy includes a beam inlet, a target having nuclear reaction with an incident proton beam from the beam inlet to produce neutrons forming a neutron beam, a moderator adjoining to the target, a reflector surrounding the moderator, a thermal neutron absorber adjoining to the moderator, a radiation shield arranged inside the beam shaping assembly and a beam outlet. The material of the moderator is subjected to a powder sintering process using a powder sintering device so as to change powders or a power compact into blocks. The reflector leads the neutrons deviated from the main axis back. The thermal neutron absorber is used for absorbing thermal neutrons so as to avoid overdosing in superficial normal tissue during therapy. The radiation shield is used for shielding leaking neutrons and photons so as to reduce dose of the normal tissue not exposed to irradiation.

In some embodiments, a ceramic armor product includes: a ceramic powder; an at least one metal-based additive; and a density of 4.3-4.7 g/cc, wherein the ceramic armor product is substantially lacking grain orientation. In some embodiments, a ceramic armor product, includes: a ceramic powder, wherein the ceramic powder is titanium diboride (TiB2); an at least one metal-based additive, wherein the at least one metal based additive comprises elements ranging from atomic numbers 21 through 30, 39 through 51, and 57 through 77; and a density of 4.3-4.7 g/cc, wherein the ceramic armor product is substantially lacking grain orientation.

A method for producing a metal-ceramic substrate with electrically conductive vias includes: attaching a first metal layer in a planar manner to a first surface side of a ceramic layer; after attaching the first metal layer, introducing a copper hydroxide or copper acetate brine into holes in the ceramic layer delimiting a via, to form an assembly; converting the copper hydroxide or copper acetate brine into copper oxide; subjecting the assembly to a high-temperature step above 500° C. in which the copper oxide forms a copper body in the holes; and after converting the copper hydroxide or copper acetate brine into the copper oxide, attaching a second metal layer in a planar manner to a second surface side of the ceramic layer opposite the first surface side. The copper body produces an electrically conductive connection between the first and the second metal layers.
METAL-Si BASED POWDER, METHOD FOR PRODUCING SAME, METAL-Si BASED SINTERED BODY, SPUTTERING TARGET, AND METAL-Si BASED THIN FILM MANUFACTURING METHOD
A metal-Si based powder contains a metal-Si based particle including a plurality of crystal phase grains. The crystal phase grains include a crystal phase containing a compound of a metal and Si. The crystal phase grains have an average grain size of, for example, 20 μm or less. The metal-Si based particle has an average particle size of, for example, 5 to 100 μm.

Black sintered body and method for producing the same
A sintered body includes a solid solution containing cobalt and iron, with the balance being zirconia. The total content of cobalt in terms of CoO and iron in terms of Fe.sub.2O.sub.3 is more than 0.1 wt % and less than 3.0 wt %, and the proportion of cobalt regions larger than 5.5 μm.sup.2 in an elemental map obtained using an electron probe microanalyzer is 25% or less.

A module and a process for forming a monolithic substantially closed-porosity silicon carbide fluidic module having a tortuous fluid passage extending through the module, the tortuous fluid passage having an interior surface, the interior surface having a surface roughness in the range of from 0.1 to 10 μm Ra. The process includes positioning a positive fluid passage mold within a volume of silicon carbide powder, the powder coated with a binder; pressing the volume of silicon carbide powder with the mold inside to form a pressed body; heating the pressed body to remove the mold; and sintering the pressed body.
